For 37 years, Ann Arbor residents have come to the corner of Liberty and Main streets to buy the best gyro in town. On Wednesday, they came to the Parthenon Restaurant to buy everything, including the kitchen sink, in a public auction.
John and Steve Gavas watched as items they paid in the thousands of dollars for went for hundreds or less. Some bid on sentimental keepsakes, others scrap metal for the junkyard and Ann Arbor adieu to an iconic establishment .
