1:30 p.m. update: Divers have recovered the body.

1:12 p.m. update: Divers had taken a small boat out on the lake and were in the water trying to get the person out.

A person was discovered floating in Ford Lake in Ypsilanti Township Friday morning, a Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office spokesman confirmed.

The Sheriff’s Office Marine Division had been called to the area near the 5900 block of Bridge Road about 11 a.m., said Sgt. Geoff Fox.

Huron Valley Ambulance was also at the scene.

Witnesses said a woman who worked at the apartments called police after seeing the man's body.

Divers and deputies in the boat pulled the person out of the water at 1:30 p.m., about two-and-a-half hours after first responders were first called to the scene.

The circumstances around the man ending up in the water are still unclear. Rumors about how the man ended up in the water started almost immediately after the search began.

Deputies at the scene did not speak to AnnArbor.com.

No further information, including whether the person is a man or a woman, was immediately available.

This article will be updated as more information becomes available.

" Divers have found the body and put it in the boat." Really?? ....' put it in the boat'. "It"!?!? What is "It"? You writing as if they caught a Marlin or something. Not subtle in my opinion, nor even necessary. You could have just gotten to the point by writing something like- 1:30 PM Update: "Divers have recovered a body". Amateur writing........at best.

We've changed the wording on that.

Frank- Considering I watched divers pull the body out at 1:30 pm, either the WDIV story is incorrect or your interpretation of it is.

This is sad. Especially keeping in mind that a 55 year old man went missing. The man lived at 5900 Bridge Rd, which is virtually where the Sheriff Dept is currently.

Kyle will have an updated story asap on authorities recovering a body from the lake.

I was stuck in traffic on west bound 94 when the officer with the boat went flying past on the eastbound side.

They put the body in a bag per Kyle on twitter. You can "assume" what you want, I personally will assume this poor soul has passed. Too bad :(

UPDATE: The WCSD has recovered a body.

'Floating' can be an emergency procedure in water, especially if you are cramping, exhausted or cannot swim very well. This heat could cause all of the above. Hopefully this is a rescue and not a recovery.

I'd assume since they said person and not body, maybe the person is alive. Typical AnnArbor.com breaking news article. Vague at best.

@actionjackson - I agree with you 100%, if you don't like this news outlet then why read it? Walk a mile in these folks shoes before you criticize.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. We are indeed exercising caution here and reporting the facts as they are known. We'll post updates as soon as we have confirmed information.

I would suggest that you get your news elsewhere if you are disappointed. They are fine with me. Of course I am not a journalism major nor do I edit typos or English mistakes. Their stories are just fine for most of us.

Which is EXACTLY as it should be until FACTS are determined. Of course the desire to be first is what leads people to do things like Fox News did after the Boston Bombings

I'm not a writer, but this headline makes it sound like the news is that the Sheriff's Office responded, not that there was a person floating in the lake.

Any information on whether they are dead or alive?

There's no official confirmation of that at this point. We have a reporter at the scene and will be posting updates as soon as possible.

This location is near the area where a man was reported missing Thursday night, but at this point we have no information indicating these incidents are related.
