By Lisa Allmendinger

In Sharon Township, voters approved a 0.5 mill tax levy for two years for fire protection and emergency medical services today.

About 29 percent of registered voters turned out and approved the measure 290 votes to 123 votes.

In Northfield Township, more than 69 percent of the voters approved a 1.8684 police protection millage renewal for 4 years, which will cost the owner of a $100,000 home about $186 per year.

Of the 6,291 registered voters, 1,036 cast ballots and approved the measure 718 votes to 318 votes.

The police department operates on three millages, and voters approved the other two millages previously.

It is estimated that the millage will raise about $329,627 when levied in 2012.
