Semi crash closes I-94 in Ann Arbor; load of dog food spilled onto the expressway

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Eastbound I-94 at Jackson Avenue in Ann Arbor is closed due to a semi tractor-trailer crash that caused the semi's load of dog food to spill onto the expressway, Michigan State Police said.

Police said no one is injured, but the semi is blocking the roadway. The expressway is expected to remain closed for about three hours.

Police said the semi's load of dog food spilled all over the roadway, and clean-up will be extensive.

Traffic is being diverted onto eastbound M-14.

"I would say if it's bags of dog food and any that didn't spill out of the now open bags should be donated. That way it isn't wasted, and the dogs don't get contaminated food" LOL! Dogs lick their butts, I don't think eating the dog food that spilled on the ground would be a problem for the dogs.

If no dog food was spilled or ever left the trailer during the accident and recovery, then why does the headline on this story say what it does about dog food spilled onto the expressway?

My dog would be very sad to hear no dog food was actually spilled. I'm sure he thought this was his fantasy come true! I, on the other hand, am very glad no food was wasted. Way to go clean-up guys.

As one of the guys who helped clean up this wreck, I can assure you that no dog food (or any other cargo) was spilled. State of the art recovery techniques protected the load from significant damage; it never left the trailer.

^ yeah, i agree. it's a nice idea, but the highway is filthy with oil and dirt, not to mention it's snowing so that food is probably ruined. shame. dog food can be expensive! oh well, maybe the birds will enjoy a little snack.

ChelseaGirl, that dog food will act like a sponge, soaking up all the nasty car drippings. Probably ruined.

This is the equivalent of an armored car turning over and spliiling out money, where are all the mongrels to scarf up the payload? Good idea ChelseaGirl.

If the dog food can not be distributed at the retail outlets perhaps they should donate it to the Humane Society.
