Saline's Rentschler Farm to participate in this weekend's US-12 garage sale

By Lisa Allmendinger

Saline’s Rentschler Farm will be part of the annual US-12 Heritage Trail garage sale this weekend.

Scheduled for Aug. 12-14, the 200-mile garage sale stretches along the route that goes from Lake Michigan to Lake Erie.

The farm is participating for the fourth year on Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., rain or shine, said Dean Greb, president of the Saline Area Historical Society.

He said about 20 people are setting up booths at the farm and the historical society will offer for sale windows, drawers and other items from demolished historic houses, as well as odds and ends.

“The garage sale is another way to increase the revenue stream for the farm,” Greb said.

The US-12 Heritage Trail organization's website boasts that “If you love to shop and love searching for hidden treasures and finding great bargains, this is the sale and trip for you.”

Expected are antiques, collectibles, furniture, dishware, fresh garden produce, homemade jams and jellies and live entertainment, depending on the site.

“The sales can be found along the highway at homes, farms, businesses, parking lots, and fields,” according to event information.

Some areas will have large numbers of vendors while others may be scattered and in some instances a traveler will have to go several miles or more without seeing a yard sale because of the rural nature of the highway. The garage sale map will be online a few days prior to the sale.
