Saline teenagers accused of robbing marijuana dealer will be in court next week

By Kyle Feldscher

The 2 Saline teenagers charged with armed robbery for taking an ounce of marijuana from another teenager will be in court next week for preliminary exams.

Emily Beach, 15, and James Brewer, 16, both face charges related to the July 27 incident, when police say that Beach set up a drug deal and Brewer and 3 other men robbed the man at gunpoint. Police say that Brewer struck the victim with the gun before leaving the scene.

The 2 teenagers will be back in court Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Washtenaw County 14A District Court. They are co-defendants in the case.

Beach faces 2 counts of armed robbery for her role in the incident. Brewer faces 2 counts of armed robbery and 1 count of assault with a dangerous weapon. Washtenaw County prosecutors are charging the teenagers as adults.

If convicted, both Brewer and Beach could face up to life in prison.

According to police, Beach set up a drug deal with a teenager she knew to be a dealer. The dealer went outside with his girlfriend, who was taking out the trash, to meet Beach when 4 people jumped him and 1 person pointed a gun at him.

Police say Brewer had the gun and took the marijuana from him before striking him in the head and leaving the area.

Saline police Det. Don Lupi said this month that there are no plans to charge the dealer with possession of marijuana because of the ongoing case against Beach and Brewer.

Dear DaLast Word, The apartment complex you are referring to is NOT for low income. That particular complex is across the street from the post office in town. The rent at Clark Lane is less expensive than out on US 12 in Six Trails. Just check out SixTrails.com There are many, many talented professional people who reside in Six Trails, as well as several athletes and church going people. If the kids from in town would stay in town instead of going to Six Trails looking to score, than this might never have happened,

I'm rather surprised this victim reported the crime. Usually when you are assaulted while engaging In illegal activity yourself you remain mute. Thus, many, many crimes remain unreported. I'm glad the police refrained from pursuing charges against the pot dealer. Might encourage more "roughed up" prostitutes and others to come forward.

It is sad that kids aren't receiving the help they need when they are younger, then our society sees it to imprison them for so many years that they never have a chance to bcome productive citizens. Instead of just throwing them away, the same amount of money could be put into helping them to make a change in their lives. Prisons are expensive.

Gramma, what's sad is that 15 and 16 year-olds set out to commit armed robbery

It is sad to see that more and more children under age 17 are being charged as adults

If you're going to do the crime, be prepared to do the time.

Why? A gunshot from a 15 year old is just as deadly as one from a 18 year old. Do you think if they were given a slap on the wrist they would never try anything like this again?

Why? Armed robbery's an adult crime.

Ever since Saline changed the staus of the appartment complex on US 12 to low income, the crime rate as increased dramatically. Expect more of this.

I don't see how this is a low income issue, sounds like illegal drugs to me......... just saying. Rich people own drugs and sell it to people in low income neighborhoods to do further damage
