Jacob Tanner has done it again. For the second year in a row, the Saline Middle School student won the chance to represent Michigan in the National Geographic Bee.
Jacob, 13, was to compete at the bee in Washington, D.C. today. The top 10 finishers from today will vie to be the overall winner in the final round Wednesday, according to the organization's website. Unfortunately, Jacob's name was not listed among the finalists.
Michigan Radio's Jenn White did a recent interview with Jacob.
Last year, after going to the national bee for the first time, Jacob told AnnArbor.com that he prepared by flipping randomly through atlases and finding places to study. He said his favorite part of last year's trip was touring the nation's capital.

Sorry folks. This is not a spelling competetion. It is a "test of geographic knowledge," as I confirmed on the web site.

Nice job. I'm envious of good spellers and I think this is a great accomplishment.

What a fabulous accomplishment! I'm a good speller, and yet every year when I watch the Bee I am astounded by the words these kids have mastered. Congratulations on earning the trip to D.C.!!!
