A 34-year-old man is facing four felony charges after he allegedly took a gun and a knife with an 8-inch blade to confront a man he believed to be seeing his estranged wife.

Robert Dyer is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a weapon with unlawful intent, assault with a dangerous weapon and assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer, according to court records. Dyer is charged in connection with an incident Saturday night in the 300 block of Clark Road.

According to a police report, Dyer was with two friends at the Deja Vu strip club in Ypsilanti when he decided he wanted to go to Saline to see his wife. Dyer drove the men to the apartment complex off of Clark and immediately got out of the car, put the hood up on his sweatshirt and walked away.

Police were notified by a neighbor of a suspicious vehicle at the complex at 9:23 p.m. Saturday and went over to check it out. When they arrived, police made contact with Dyer’s two friends who were still in the car before Dyer was spotted walking nearby.

Dyer walked toward a police officer carrying something in one hand that was behind his back. The officer, with his gun drawn and pointed at Dyer, directed him to empty his hands and, after walking about 15 feet toward the officer, Dyer allegedly threw a knife underneath the police car, according to the report.

Dyer walked another five feet toward the officer before lying on the ground and surrendering, informing police who placed him under arrest that he had a .44-caliber pistol in his waistband.

Further investigation revealed Dyer allegedly confronted a 27-year-old man he believed was dating his wife, who he had been separated from for five months. Although the man denied that, Dyer became aggressive and pulled up his shirt to show the man the pistol, according to the report.

The 27-year-old man told police Dyer was pulling out the gun when he turned to run away, going to an apartment nearby before running to a nearby CVS. Once he got to the store, he had a clerk call police and lock the doors to the store, according to the report.

Dyer was arrested and taken to the Saline Police Department for questioning. Dyer was lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail Monday afternoon on a 10 percent of $50,000 bond, according to jail records.
