Saline will be the home to two interesting events Sunday - a benefit auction for Food Gatherers at Saline Picture Frame and an educational program about window restoration at the Rentschler Farm.

Saline Picture Frame and Dexter Picture Frame companies are hosting the eighth annual Circle of Art auction and party, while the proceeds will be donated to Food Gatherers. The auction runs from noon to 5 p.m.

“It is a chance to bid on original works of art from the many artists in the area and also to help the Food Gatherers fight hunger where we live,” according to information about the event.

More than 2,900 small works of art have provided more than 145,000 meals to local people in need and nearly $120,000 has been raised in previous years.

And, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the exhibit barn at Rentschler Farm, 1265 E. Michigan Ave., the Saline Area Historical Society is hosting an education program that explores the restoration of the windows in the farm house, what options are available for homeowners with old homes and when restoration is a better option than replacement.

This year, the Rentschler Farm's 24 windows were professionally restored by Jeffrey Weatherford, through a Tecumseh business called Preservation by Design. Weatherford will provide a program showing the planning, the process and the results of this project.

If you have a historic home or barn, you can learn about the options available from Chris Schmidt, licensed builder and master carpenter, who assisted with the project and will also be there to answer questions.

The restoration project was underwritten by the City of Saline, according to historical society information.
