Robbery suspect arrested after attempting to resell stolen cigarettes at Ypsilanti Township gas station
Police say a 45-year-old man robbed a 7-Eleven store in Ypsilanti Township of $12 cash and a carton of cigarettes early today, then attempted to resell the cigarettes at a nearby gas station.
He's now jailed on armed robbery charges.
Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies say the Ypsilanti Township man entered the 7-Eleven at Rawsonville and Textile roads and implied he had a weapon. He fled with $12 and a carton of Newport 100 cigarettes.
Deputies were called to the store and were checking the area when a call came in from an employee at the Mobil station at Rawsonville Road and Willis Road, reports said. A man matching the description of the robber bought $5 in gas there and attempted to sell the carton of cigarettes, reports said.
He left westbound on Willis Road, and a sheriff's deputy caught up with his vehicle on Bunton Road near Textile Road.
The man was arrested without incident and is expected to be arraigned later today, police said.
All the property taken from the 7-Eleven was recovered.
