Readers' best shots of storm-drenched Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Washtenaw County

By AnnArbor.com Staff

After nearly 4 inches of rain fell in Ann Arbor and around the county in a day's time, plenty of drivers could've used a kayak instead of a car for the evening commute Wednesday.

The heavy rains stranded some drivers on flooded roads, and Northside Elementary School in Ann Arbor is closed today after lightning struck its chimney.

Readers sent us their images from the storm-soaked region. Click on the images below to see location information and photo credits. We'll accept more images today (and there's more rain on the way, forecasters say) through 5 p.m. Send your best shots to news@annarbor.com, along with location information.

Thanks to all who submitted photos!

I especially like the last photo in the (current) series - it almost looks like a lava flow....
