Rain starts overnight as forecast; drivers urged to be cautious
Weather forecasters promised that rain would start overnight, and by morning the downpour was well under way in Ann Arbor.
By 6 a.m., Washtenaw County's roads were accident-free, even as drivers remained warned by the National Weather Service that conditions could change.
Several school closings were reported northeast of Metro Detroit, but none were listed in Washtenaw County.
According to the forecast, "Rain will taper off to drizzle after 7 a.m. Some sleet may mix in with the rain at times."
Motorists should be prepared for wet roads, and areas of Chelsea and Dexter at higher elevations may see some freezing rain at times, according to the forecast.
The morning temperature was 33, with a high of 55 expected. A chance of more rain - this time with snow - returns Wednesday night.

Hey. The lead-in said rain was "promised". Weather guessers can't promise anything. They can only forecast the possibility of rain. Not trying to be picky or rude here...just think local local weather forecasts are a little silly.

Or we could all be thankful that, once we spread the word when the National Weather Service issues a weather advisory, we seem to ensure that not much happens. Kind of like a reverse jinx. It actually was icy in some areas this morning. I was relieved to see that didn't affect this area (and that my kids still had to go to school).

Unlike last week's prediction of 6-8 inches of snow, my Weather Channel Desktop didn't issue even a yellow, let alone orange or red, warning or advisory about this morning. Maybe they learned something from their big red-tinted mistaken warning last week. But we have had unusual weather today. Fog at 1:30 in the afternoon, lasting all the rest of the afternoon? Usually the nimbus cloud we can walk through (that's fog) is present in the early morning, dusk and at night, NOT in the afternoon.

By "it," I think you mean the roads' conditions, not the weather. I did see tree branches coated with ice this morning, but didn't hear of any vehicular accidents reported on the radio. The ice on one tree melted off much sooner than another trees', but the stubborn ice on the second tree fell or melted off all at once. Then I was sure it was safe to drive.

I think in this day and age we all have access to the weather reports and people with children are especially interested in it. We can be responsible for that. I don't believe we need daily articles on the weather.
