Pure Michigan campaign releases videos promoting winter activities in Michigan

By Kyle Mattson

It was a disappointing winter last year for those who enjoy snowshoes in January as much as flip flops in July.

Will this year be a repeat with children eating ice cream in March or will students around the state enjoy multiple snow days? Either way, the statewide Pure Michigan marketing campaign has made its official transition to promoting winter here in the mitten state.

Check out their newest extended online video below featuring some ways to enjoy the cold months ahead. It's a slightly different approach than the statewide sing-along which encountered some copyright issues, the popular television commercials featuring celebrity Tim Allen, and economic focused videos we've seen in the past, but it is sure to inspire lovers of snow, both young and old.

The new campaign is the largest winter-focused effort for Pure Michigan to date with a total budget of $2.24 million, including $270,000 in funding committed by seven different advertising partners including Ski Michigan, the Michigan Snowsports Industries Association, and multiple regional tourism bureaus. In addition to online efforts, television, radio, and billboard advertisements will be run throughout the month of January in key markets in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin.

for all the grief i've given pure michigan... now i'll forgive them. they may have screwed up on ignoring the UP in the past.... and they screwed up on copyright violations (incredibly unprofessional).... but FINALLY... they acknowledged the UP in this video. beautifully done. ice climbing... beautiful. i recognize those climbs... i've climbed them myself. and they went to some of the best spots in michigan (winter) to do the filming... awesome stuff. beautiful job. bravo. i think i'll have to write about this good stuff at some point.... my congrats to the Pure Michigan crew.

Notice that they didn't show the 4 month mud hole that is winter in SE Michigan. I do love a REAL winter though.

Agreed. Bring on the snow or let me be able to hit the golf course.

Kyle; The spoof, while funny, is not my problem with winter. I wish it was either cold enough here to have a real winter, as shown in the video or warm enough that we didn't have to deal with it at all. The purgatory we live in is not fun for 4 months a year.

I'll admit EyeHeat, I'm surprised no one has brought up this parody from a couple years ago: http://bit.ly/TOf9lp

How about some scenes of luge? Michigan has one half the country's luge tracks; a natural track in Negaunee that hosted a World Cup competition in 1995 and an artificial track at Muskegon State Park!

Visiting the luge is on my winter in Michigan bucket list but have yet to make it out. Has anyone been? Here's a link for anyone who is curious about it: http://www.msports.org/luge

They should also show some people playing pond hockey.

.99999999999999&1/2 Seconds of Snowmobiling????????????? Michigan is Number 1 in registered snowmobiles! Last time I checked it was a very large part of our winter economy. Nice add but come one.
