Power outage affects more than 2,500 on Ann Arbor's West Side
Editor's Note: At 6:40 p.m., DTE Spokesman Scott Simons said power has been restored to all customers in Ann Arbor. The cause of the downed power lines is still under investigation.
This story will be updated with more information as it becomes available.
Power outages affecting more than 2,500 DTE Energy customers hit the west side of Ann Arbor late Monday morning.
According to the DTE online outage map, power is expected to be restored to the affected areas no later than 4:39 p.m. Monday. The cause for all of the outages displayed on the map is "area outage."
DTE spokeswoman Erica Donerson said that crews were on the way to the area about 12:10 p.m. but that the cause of the outage had not yet been determined.
"They're not exactly sure what the problem is yet, but they are hoping to have power restored by about 4:30 p.m. at the latest," she said.
Update at 2:10 p.m.: DTE spokeswoman Erica Donerson said crews have identified multiple downed wires as the cause of the outages. She said DTE is still unsure how the wires were damaged but that the company hopes to have power restored by 4 p.m. to affected customers.
Donerson added that while the outage map appears to indicate nearly 3,500 customers without power, DTE has only been able to confirm that 800 have lost power Monday.
Update at 4:40 p.m.: Donerson said the restoration estimate has been pushed back to approximately 6 p.m. for those without power on the west side of Ann Arbor. She said that the online outage map has been experiencing problems and that approximately 800-900 DTE customers are without power.

I clicked into this article thinking it was talking about this morning - I'm on the SE side of Ann Arbor and we lost power for a moment around 11:30.

My accountant was affected by the power outage, and had to file for an extension for me today. Hopefully, she will be able to finish this later this week - I need my refund.

How was the wind today on the West Side? I was in Ypsilanti most of the day, and it was windy there. I don't know if a 30 mph wind could down power lines, but it did not affect the FEELS LIKE temperature in Ypsilanti today. Too warm for that effect.

It was a great day to have the power go out at the main post office on West Stadium. I was lucky enough to show up, a pile of forms for the tax folks in hand, just as the power came on again around 1:30. There were hand-written signs up around the post office directing people to the other post offices in town, but there was still a line of about 15 people ahead of me, all patiently waiting. The postal employees stepped it up and whittled the line down fairly quickly.

Power out on Mason Ave (Lakewood Sub). Came back on (and off) at least twice in one minute before I shut my house Mains off to prevent damage to computers, appliances, etc. I moved to that area 3 years ago and have lost power more times than I can count. At least one due to car hitting a pole, and once to a downed tree in a neighbors yard. Other reasons unknown. Does seem more common than when I lived near Packard/Eisenhower.

Stop lights were out at Jackson Road - Wagner intersection Monday morning. People were being very careful making the crossings.

Just got power back on N Maple. It was more of a brown out at our house not a total power loss.

I own a business over here (on the west side of Ann Arbor) and we lose power quite frequently. Compared to my home on the south side, where we have lost power just twice in four years. Thankfully we were spared this time but I feel for all those other proprietors who are losing business because of this. DTE needs to do something about this.

Or the customer could purchase a generator if it is that frequent.

My lights flickered. I just called to have 4 face cords of wood delivered to my house in case this turns out to be like 2003's outage. I went to a big box store and they were out of generators. I am heading to Canton to see if they have any. Thanks for the heads up.

The most recent DTE Map shows just under 3,500 customers effected. Still no word on the cause of the outage.

The shading indicates areas where a significant number of customers have lost power, not a complete black-out. The different colors indicate how many customers, with the colors nearer red representing higher numbers. Now my question is...... did Skyline escape this time? It's not in a shaded area, but whenever there's an outage going, that school seems to be first in line.. ;)
