U-M gameday police stats: 4 arrests, 14 ejected from Michigan Stadium

By Paula Gardner

The University of MIchigan Department of Public Safety reports four arrests Saturday during the Wolverines' game against Illinois in Ann Arbor.

Of those arrests, two were for resisting & obstructing a police officer, 1 for minor in possession of alcohol and 1 for possession of suspected marijuana.

Among other issues handled by DPS at Michigan Stadium on Saturday, according to spokesperson Diane Brown, there were:

  • 3 citations: all for alcohol in the stadium.
  • 14 additional ejections: 6 for alcohol in the stadium, 4 for violation of the stadium rules, 3 for disorderly conduct, 1 for unauthorized entry onto the field.

The explanation for the unauthorized entry onto the field: "A drunk visitor jumped the wall at the end of the first half."

The announced attendance was 110,922.

Emergency medical personnel provided assistance to 34 subjects, of whom 5 were taken to the hospital.

How many were arrested for DUI after getting tanked at the golf course or any other tailgate spot?? Just what I thought. Perhaps we can start getting those stats included on gameday police encounters.

Isn't this football Saturday stuff just inspirational? Yes, and who and what is it inspiring? I dislike football and what it creates; this action today and last night's action are indicative of what is being inspired.

So you dislike music too Linda? Because music inspires the same type of conduct.

The announced attendance of 110,922 is hard to believe. The upper parts of the student sections were empty during the whole game and there were scores and scores of tickets for sale outside the stadium. I doubt the alumni band would have filled the empty seats in the student sections today if they were moved there from the field. It is good the spectator count was not taken at the start of the 4th quarter. The number would have been much less than 100k. Just a spectator's 2 cents ...that stayed for the complete game.

re: "bad weather" I call today's weather "football weather". Let the students bring in marshmallows like in the old days, and you've got yourself a classic October ballgame.

College football has managed to evolve into a minor league product. Added to that major league ticket prices and bad weather

"Of those arrests, two were for resisting & obstructing a police officer, 1 for minor in possession of alcohol and 1 for possession of suspected marijuana" So now let's wait and see what the post-arrest number is for the Huron/Pioneer fight...
