  • Update: Jill Fine was found about 5:35 p.m. Friday. Read an updated article.
  • Update: Ann Arbor police are now saying the woman had on black flip-flops, not Crocs. The story has been changed accordingly.

A 39-year-old Ann Arbor woman who took her dog for a walk Thursday night never returned home, police said.

Jill Fine went missing from her neighborhood near West Liberty Avenue and Dartmoor Road in Ann Arbor. Fine lives on Dartmoor with her husband.

Fine went for a walk around 9:30 p.m. Thursday. The dog was later found in the neighborhood with a leash still on, said Det. William Stanford of the Ann Arbor Police Department.

“We think she has some health issues,” Stanford said.

Fine is described as 5 foot 7 inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds. She was last seen wearing a pink shirt, khaki shorts and black flip-fops.

Police ask the public to call either 911 or Stanford at (734) 323-2628 if they have any knowledge of Fine’s whereabouts.

I grew up in that area, and there is little chance of her not being noticed. For better results, you may want to pass out leaflets to the neighbors. Checking the dark wooded areas around the grounds of the church and parks. She may have passed out and let go of the dog. Take the dog with you when you search, and it will help find her.

Jill has been found, a happy ending to a scary day.

If you don't have a break in the case within the next 12-24 hours, you might want to invest in a psychic criminal investigator. They'll be able to SEE what happened and/or where she was/is if they have her picture or clothing/personal items. The likelihood of her being found (alive) exponentially decreases after 48 hours. We need to put all of our effort into finding her NOW, using ALL resources possible, whether you believe in the paranormal or not.

Sincerely hope you find your wife and my prayers are with you. Assuming you have contacted her family and friends have you all put together a search party and if so, when is it?

This might sound silly, but check your entire yard, behind any all bushes as well as those of your immediate neighbors. Maybe the beagle wasn't unattended for very long.

Not silly at all, that was the first place the police looked - every room, closet and attic access in our house; in the bushes and under the decks; and our neighbor's house as well.

Go back out with the beagle and let the beagle guide you. It's possible it might go back to the place where they last had contact.

I walked Bailey earlier along all the routes I mentioned above (minus Virginia Park), but unfortunately the only scent she picked up was squirrels. >:( With Bailey, I took the most direct route from Ivywood -> Eberwhite Woods/School -> Northwood; but I tried biking the other trails haphazardly last night and earlier this morning. Earlier today I met the *wonderful* neighbor whose yard I found Bailey in; I'll try going back there again for Bailey's evening walk.

My prayers are with you that she will be found safe. I live close by and there are many dog owning people that are home during the day on Arbordale. I am sure you could raise of army of volunteers to look through Eberwhite and Fritz Parks. Maybe distribute flyers. I wish I was home to help. Have they looked behind Zion Lutheran by the retaining pond? If she is like me she wouldn't go into the woods at night.

J

I did see a green pond in the woods this morning, but I was too afraid to look... :(

Can we assume that that Police have already searched the area with dogs looking for your wife, @J? Is there an organized search where volunteers can help fan out and search the area?

I am Jill's husband: She'd been suffering from both insomnia and nausea this week; so she hadn't had much sleep and she could be weak from not being keep down much more than bread. She had shorts on last night which I described as "khaki-style", but they may not have been khaki-colored. I don't know that she had her yellow Crocs on; those were simply the shoes I didn't see in the hallway, but they may have been in another closet. Please contact the police if you have seen her at all! She was walking our beagle last night. - J

One more thing, I used to live at the corner of Arbordale & Pauline, those apartments there have basements with laundry rooms and storage. Might have a look over that way if she is disoriented. Also the ones across the street from there (the two level that the address is technically Pauline) they have an old underground area underneath the building with rooms. Just trying to give you places to look in that area that you may not have thought of!

My prayers are with you and Jill. Weird question/comment - but can your beagle help find her? Your dog will know her scent.

Does she typically follow the same route when she walks the dog? Or may be have a go to area like a park or something? Do you know if maybe she stops to get a snack or something while walking? I run all over in the area I will def help as much as possible and keep and eye and ear out for anything that could possibly help.

I apologize for all the comments, it's surreal/freaky seeing this article. My flip-flops are black Speedo brand, kinda like these but with with the logo in red: http://www.amazon.com/Speedo-Mens-Slide-Black-White/dp/B001IBIWRI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1345827124&sr=8-1&keywords=speedo+sandals I've searched the whole house for them and can't find them, so they're likely what she was wearing. I've called AAPD to update them as well.

I hope she is found quickly and is ok.

J

Fri, Aug 24, 2012 : 4:40 p.m.

So I can't find my flip-flops anywhere...can't remember the brand, but it's red lettering and swoopy (not Nike). So she was probably wearing those, which she sometimes does when she's taking our dog out in the yard.

The yellow Crocs are in the garage, so I don't know what shoes she was wearing last night.

All the AAPD chose to release at this time is that she had "health issues." If police choose to give more details at a later time, we will then report them.

What does "we think she has some health issues" mean? She could be laying unconscious somewhere?

Yes, it would be nice if they elaborated more. Could they mean mental health, physical health?
