Police looking for red/burgundy Chevy Lumina in hit-and-run crash that injured 11-year-old boy
Police have narrowed down the make and model of a vehicle that struck and critically injured an 11-year-old boy to a burgundy or red Chevy Lumina manufactured between 1993 to 2001.
That vehicle - with a missing headlight and possible other damage to the front passenger's side - has been sought since a hit-and-run crash at about 11:20 p.m. Saturday.
The crash occurred as three youths left the area of 1375 Prospect Road following a children's party. Police said an older model maroon-colored vehicle was traveling north on Prospect Road - north of Holmes Road and south of Clark Road - when the vehicle struck the 11-year-old child.
The boy was with two other children, ages 15 and 8, said Derrick Jackson, a spokesman for the Sheriff's Department. It was raining heavily at the time.
Jackson said the youths were in the street when the 11-year-old was struck. He said there's no evidence the boy was in a yard when he was hit.
The boy began talking again for the first time today, but is still in critical condition, Jackson said.
Anyone who sees the vehicle or has information is asked to call Detective Robert Losey at (734) 973-4791 or the confidential tip line at (734) 973-7711.

If the Police had the VIN they would not be asking for the general public insight. The VIN could be run through SOS database which would give an address for where it is registered. Also, the part number from the headlight will not tell you anything except what model it was made for. They are made by a third party vendor for the manufacture. The series of numbers on the lamp is only a part specific id number. Nothing that is specific to each and every vehicle.

Please don't scoff, but I watched a crime drama where the investigators were able to get a PIN number off the broken pieces of headlight left behind in a hit and run. I wonder if that is true. And thanks for the picture. Now that we know the make and model, let's all look for it while we are on the road.

When running a vehicle query, the color of the vehicle is not listed as vehicle owners can change the color of the vehicle at any local body shop. Also, this area is known for its transient population. The vehicle could have been registered in Ohio, Illinois, etc.

@dading, I would be very surprised if they didn't have all of the relevant information needed, color and VIN included.

@EyeHeartA2, Exactly! This is a simple query...Make = Chevrolet, Model = Lumina, Year = 1993 - 2001, Color = [optional], etc. I would think something like this could be run in minutes...much faster than waiting for the public to track it down. Btw, the car is probably in hiding.

@saldoggy, i would think this is as far as they could take it w/o a license number. most of those headlight pieces are used on a couple different models. i think it's a great clue that they could narrow it down to what they did. now it's time for the public to take notice and continue to help out.

I would think the Police have the ability to narrow the search further using a vehicle registration database???
