I'm disappointed and ashamed to be apart of this community for the lack of support I'm reading in these comments. Why are we not supporting each other and looking at the bigger issue here? It goes beyond cars being locked or unlocked. Dexter has become a target location for crime in the past year. Shouldn't THAT be the focus? It has been the target for multiple businesses and individuals and it seems to be increasing rapidly. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then educate yourself on the crimes that have taken place and stop posting nasty comments. Don't you think these people feel bad enough as it is?

Isn't the bigger issue how we citizens can exercise our second amendment rights to solve this problem?

If you leave your doors unlocked unattended, don't complain if something gets stolen.

Not complaining. Just letting people know that these thieves were very bold. We are careful about locking doors and this was one time where the car was possibly overlooked. I still distinctly remember locking it. It won't happen again. We will double check, triple check and check again!

We were sure that we had locked our car, as we always do. It was in the driveway very close to the house with a flood light shining directly on it. Thanks for blaming the victims.

The blame game seems to be popular these days. Ignore the negative comments. They come from ignorant, unhappy people.

You're welcome. But seriously, let's imagine that you own a retail establishment. Upon closing for the day, you "thought" you had locked the doors and set the alarm, but you hadn't. The next morning you find that someone walked off with your inventory. Yes, that individual is responsible for his wrong-doing, but you are partly to "blame" for creating the opportunity.

Maybe double check like a lot of other people?

Some folks do not listen to Rich Kinsey.

We have to be reminded by police to lock our doors?

People really leave their cars unlocked in this day and age? Amazing!

Lighten up! Sounds like it was unintentional. I'm sure you've never forgotten to lock a door, turn off the coffee maker, etc.

Moats may be the answer, and they are less obtrusive than vast banks of high intensity discharge lights and electrified fences studded with gun towers. Alternatively, folks could lock their doors.
