Police investigating huge fight near downtown Ypsilanti

No injuries were reported Saturday after Ypsilanti police responded to a fight involving 30 people who reportedly battled with knives and chairs on West Michigan Avenue just west of downtown.
The incident took place around 10:47 p.m. on the 900 block of West Michigan Avenue. Police said the crowd dispersed when officers arrived on the scene. An officer reported finding a window of a nearby townhouse unit broken from a thrown chair.
Police on Sunday said a passerby called 911 but it was hard to tell what had happened.
"It was hard to say. No one was talking," Sgt. Deric Gress said.

Let's go out on a limb here and say that 30 people (supposedly/allegedly) fighting with knives, less than a 1/2 mile from a police station (downtown Ypsi) and NO ONE WAS injured, arrested or found after this alleged incident....makes this story questionable at best and possibly a right out lie. And this is news these days?

Let me try this again. 900 W Michigan is as close to downtown Ypsi as Waterworks Park is to Main St, Ann Arbor. They could have had a gun fight at 900 W Michigan and noone eating outside at Redrock in downtown Ypsi would have noticed. If Ypsi was a person, they could sue annarbor.com for libel many times over. If you are unable or unwilling to learn the very basics about our community, please stop trying to report on it.

"Police investigating huge fight near downtown Ypsilanti" I doubt it. What's to continue to investigate? They came, everyone left, "no one was talking"; case closed. Unless there are surveillance cameras in the 900 blk. that caught the chair thrower who broke the window....

This is not downtown Ypsilanti ; this is most likely a fight that spilled out of the confines of Paradise Manor (more locally known as Parasite Manor.) And is this even news? At best we have a vandalism to wit there is no victim that has come forward. Way to go using the yellow headlines. Ridiculous.

I'm sure the new rec center will fill the void in their lives and this type of activity will stop. Btw, are they installing punching bags at the new rec center? And if the city would kindly install cameras that upload directly to youtube, it would save these folks the trouble of doing it themselves. Maybe an ordinance banning chairs on porches would help? Or did they bring their own chairs to the fight?

Mighty early in the evening for the local thugs to be brawling! I used to like going into the Tap Room or Depot town for a burger and drink. I will stay in Ann Arbor where the boys from east of Carpenter don't show until 1 to 3am.
