Eisenhower Parkway and Ann Arbor-Saline Road area reopens after gas leak
Ann Arbor police and fire crews were closing down the area near Eisenhower Parkway and Ann Arbor-Saline Road Wednesday morning after construction workers in the area struck a gas line.
When reached around 9:20 a.m., police did not immediately know how big the leak was and were not sure how long the area would be shut down. Drivers were encouraged to stay away from the area.
DTE Energy crews were called to shut off the gas so the line could be repaired, according to police.
Update 10:45 a.m.: Len Singer, a DTE spokesman, said the leak does not appear to be a major issue. Crews are on scene excavating the area to find the leak and repair the failure, Singer said.
There was no time estimate on how long it would take to identify the leak, repair it and then reopen the area, Singer said.
Update at 1:50 p.m.: The area is now open again, according Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush.

Yes, I drove by there a short time ago, and there were a lot of construction vehicles and workers on the Shell property. They were tearing up near the entrance where the car wash is, and there was a big trench in the area between the car wash exit and the store.

I am not going to underplay the importance of calling miss dig when doing construction underground, however with that being said, many of times, lines 1) are mismarked, or 2) not the depth that they are required to be, sometimes a little of both. Also, the little flags they put in the grass/dirt (which is not always where people dig, i.e. pavement) the ones that say dig by hand, well that can be quite tough at 2' or below ground. Suggestion to you so clever reader, get a hard hat and get your hands dirty.
