Pittsfield Township police arrest suspected driver of SUV that struck 13-year-old boy and fled
A driver who police say struck a 13-year-old boy with his SUV in Pittsfield Township and fled the scene Monday was arrested this afternoon.
The 24-year-old Canton man is accused of leaving the teenager, who was skateboarding, in the street Monday evening with serious injuries that included a broken leg and shoulder and arm injuries, a police news release said.
The incident happened at about 7:36 p.m. in the 3400 block of Hillside Drive. Witnesses told police the driver got out of the car, looked at the boy, got back into the car and drove off.
Police identified the suspected driver through evidence - including a partial license plate - and information from witnesses, officials said. Police officials said the driver was arrested at 1 p.m. today in Canton.
A 2006 Chevy Trailblazer believed to be involved was impounded, police said.
The suspect was lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail pending review of charges by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office. Police declined to reveal whether the suspect made any statements to police.

Kudos to the Pittsfield Township police for acting so quick on this and nabbing the suspected driver of that SUV. Here's hoping they prosecute this bozo to the fullest extent of the law. Unfortunately even if he gets the max punishment (what is that 5 years/$5000 fine?) it still would hardly be recompense for the trauma that boy has had to go through

I have to agree with Dave66... I can't fathom the total lack of any kind of compassion or concern by either the driver or his passenger. Oh wait - they did have concerns - for themselves.

Most of us would have stopped had we hit a dog, an animal. He didnt stop to help a human being, not only that but a child! I hope someday when this person is a parent, he remembers this and he thinks about it every time his child is outside playing.

They should throw the book at him and his female accomplice to a crime. He didn't admit to it and turn himself in, he obviously has no conscience, if the witnesses hadn't been able to provide enough detail this could have gone unsolved.

I have a story that's not nearly as bad as these, more comical than tragic. In 1990 (WAY before I ever had a cell phone), my car slid off US-23 into the ditch, between Plymouth Road and M-14. Miserable winter night, one of those nights when it's raining ice. A car stopped and I asked for a ride to the nearest pay phone, and the driver declined. He said he was lost and he asked me for directions! I couldn't help him, and he left me there.

This reminds me of my 17 year old son's accident 3 summers ago. He was hit by a driver, his vehicle flipped and skidded on the roof into a drainage ditch, popping the windshield out and crushing the roof in. When my son emerged from the only opening, a triangle shaped window gap, the driver gave his name and phone number and walked away. That driver's vehicle was in the field, disabled. No 911 call, no concern about internal bleeding, concussion, nothing. The next morning he called to see if the police had come - do you think? Our son is lucky he survived. He walked home since his cell phone battery was dead. Three days later the driver's attorney called since charges were being assessed against him. Really - after leaving a teenager without a phone on a country road at night after flipping his vehicle? Common sense and decency, please.

Agree with Dav66's comment. The Prosecutors ought to throw the book at him.

I just can't wrap my brain around the fact that the guy got out of his car, looked at a 13 year old child in the street with multiple broken bones, and then left. Such a depraved indifference to suffering. The person who could do a thing like that quite simply has no soul.
