Pittsfield Township man charged with murdering his wife
- Update: Police: Pittsfield Township woman died of multiple stab wounds
- Previous coverage: Police: Husband held after death of 53 year-old woman in Pittsfield Township
Prosecutors have brought a charge of murder against a Pittsfield Township man suspected of killing his wife Friday in their home on Hickory Pointe Boulevard.
Jean Pierre Trias, 44, was arraigned Sunday on a single count of open murder in the death of Katherine Porter, Public Safety Director Matthew Harshberger said.
Police discovered the 53 year-old's body after making a welfare check Friday at the couple's residence on the 4700 block of Hickory Pointe.
Harshberger declined Sunday to share additional details of the investigation but said more would be forthcoming Monday.
Police have not said how Porter was killed, but neighbors told AnnArbor.com Saturday that they heard what sounded like gunshots the night before Porter's body was discovered.
Neighbors also said people frequently came and went at the home.

"Neighbors also said people frequently came and went at the home." What exactly do you mean by this one-liner, Sven? Needless, IMHO. Newsflash: This happens a lot at my home, and many of the friends and neighbors on my street! *shock*

RE: " but neighbors told AnnArbor.com Saturday that they heard what sounded like gunshots the night before Porter's body was discovered." -- Just to make a point, I'm a gun owner but never hesitate to call police if I hear gun shots in my neighborhood. What does a gun shot sound like? Well - if you shoot guns long enough, you'll darned well get a good idea of what a gun shot sounds like (under various conditions). Just thought of this: when a gun range is established, you can be sure there'll be those complaining about the sound of gun shots. Everyone making THOSE complaints is CERTAIN they hear gun shots. Kinda funny when you think about it.

There's a gun range one mile east of here. You can here them when conditions are right. Apparently the reporter talked to friendless people who never have visitors and aren't sure what a gunshot in a neighbor's house sounds like.

Truly. Why should we tolerate this elementary school level of "reporting" by annarbor.com? Why bother to click-on their website? Real Reporters have long since departed annarbor.com. Just saying . . .

Yes, it's pretty disgusting - and disappointing. I was one of those who held high hopes that AnnArbor.com would become a good replacement for the Ann Arbor News. And we're not the only ones - I keep hearing from friends that they've stopped reading this news site altogether. I thought they were wrong - just because I thought continued effort would bring improvement. But it seems to be getting worse, bit by bit. I hope Marge Champion is reading our comments. The publisher should have plenty of reason to "up the game" here.

My condolences to the families involved in this tragedy. Many people care so much. Thank you for the update, Cash. And to the Detroit News. A2.com reporter(s) might say "we don't make the news, we just report the news "yet not only is their report incomplete it ends with an insinuation. I am disappointed to see this kind of journalism in our community news.

If you ask enough neighbors you might find someone that said they did not cut their lawn often enough! I agree unless you have a good reason for putting the "Neighbors also said people frequently came and went at the home.' comment in PLEASE delete it! A2.com should censor their own writing as much as they do the commentor's!

Yes, thank you. That comment made me think this woman may have been caught entertaining. It is sad and makes me wonder how anyone could get so angry at their spouse, if he is the killer.

Please don't keep repeating ill-informed comments from neighbors that make it sound like our friends ran a drug house. ("People frequently came and went at the home.") Anyone who knows them would tell you that JP and Kate are hospitable and generous people, who enjoyed inviting friends and family over for meals and movies or board games. This is unspeakably sad, and a great loss to all their friends and family.

You're the one who brought up drugs. My first thought was that perhaps more than one person was involved in the crime. I didn't even think drugs until you mentioned it.
