Pipe bursts, floods basement in Ann Arbor City Hall; contractor to make repairs
Flooring in the basement of Larcom City Hall in Ann Arbor will have to be replaced after a pipe broke Wednesday night, flooding the basement with about an inch of water, but it won't cost the city anything.
Lisa Wondrash, communications unit manager for the city, said a contractor working on renovations to the building as part of the city's Municipal Center project will pay for the repairs.
No city offices are currently in the basement, and the mishap has had no impact on city services, Wondrash said Thursday. She didn't know what caused the pipe to break or the exact time of the incident.
The Larcom City Hall building, at Fifth Avenue and Huron Street, is undergoing renovations as part of a project that included the construction of a new police and courts building, which is already open adjacent to City Hall.
