Ebony Antanet Britt, a freshman at Pioneer High School, didn't return home from school Tuesday and is believed to have voluntarily left the area, Det. Bill Stanford said.

She may be traveling to Georgia to visit her father, Stanford said. Ebony's mother, Towana Kelly, reported her missing at 7 a.m. Wednesday. Kelly said she thought she had to wait 24 hours to file a missing-person report.

Ebony is 5 feet, 5 inches tall and 150 pounds. She was wearing a green T-shirt, blue jeans and green and white shoes when she got on the bus about 6:50 a.m. Tuesday to go to school, Kelly said. Ebony has never run away from home, Kelly said.

"If she was here in Ann Arbor or Ypsilanti, it seems like she would have contacted somebody," Kelly said. "I don't know where she could be."

Ebony was seen in class about 1:25 p.m. Tuesday and missed her last class of the day, Kelly said. At the end of each school day, Ebony typically takes a bus downtown, then takes another bus home, Kelly said.

Kelly was expecting Ebony to return to her Stone School Road home between 4:15 p.m. and 4:35 p.m. Tuesday.

Information on Ebony has been entered into the Michigan Law Enforcement Information Network, a computerized database with criminal justice information that's available around-the-clock to participating law enforcement agencies in the state.

Anyone with information can call the department's tip line at (734) 794-6939 or email TIPS@a2gov.org.

She is beautiful. I will keep this picture of her on my mind to bring information to light. I so hope she has safe travels and that once she finds her way, that her mother is immediately contacted. Good prayers are being sent out to the heavens on her behalf.

greymom- that was my initial thought! In this day and age, any missing child should be considered endangered! Tony- thanks for the amber alert info. It does seem that it is being used less lately, so I was hoping the program hadn't been scrapped!

I am not being argumentative, but if she is missing, whereabouts unknown, isn't it pure speculation that she left on her own free will? I 100% agree, an amber alert should have been and still should be issued.

I agree with greymom. Put this girl on Amber Alert!

As far as I am concerned all missing children should go up on Amber Alert- if she is on her way to another State anything can happen between here and there!!!! So, I guess I would consider her endangered because there are a lot of bad people she could come across on her way to her Dad's. Think about it, in Belleville we still have a 15 year old missing because she ran away but who of us can say she was taken? You really don't know 100% until you get them home!!! Prayers go out to her and her family!

Maybe someone see if she has a Facebook page and has updated her status recently. It happens all too often that people will do something then let everyone online know about it.

Amber Alerts are for missing/endangered children. Amber Alerts are not for voluntary run-aways unless the life of the child is known to be at-risk. Running away to hang out with dad in another state, on its face, does not fit the criteria. With that being said, I do hope the child returns home quickly and safely.

Whatever happened to Amber Alerts? This girl has been missing since Wednesday and this is the 1st we hear about it? It's a little late now, especially if she's heading to GA. Prayers for her safety and quick return....
