Parthenon Restaurant in downtown Ann Arbor reopens tonight, 1 day after kitchen fire
Ann Arbor’s Parthenon Restaurant will reopen today at 5 p.m., one day after a kitchen fire forced the restaurant to close.
Co-owner Steve Gavas said cleaning crews have been at the restaurant, located at 226 S. Main, since firefighters cleared the scene on Tuesday afternoon.

The fire stopped traffic on South Main at about 3:15 p.m. when flames were spotted shooting through the roof.
Property manager Ben Curtis, who was nearby, rushed over and used fire extinguishers to contain the grease fire until firefighters arrived.
Damage was estimated at about $15,000, but firefighters initially thought the restaurant could reopen hours later.
Instead, Gavas said, he had to dispose of about $1,000 of food on site and reorder. That, along with the cleaning, kept the restaurant closed through this afternoon.
“We’re done,” he said. “We’re ready for business.”

Should we assume the fire started in the grease traps over the over the stove?
