Overnight snowfall sends Ann Arbor-area motorists sliding off roads, freeways

By Cindy Heflin

Icy conditions on Washtenaw County roads have numerous spinouts and road runoffs this morning, a dispatcher with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office said.

One vehicle had run off the road on westbound M-14 near Ford Road shortly before 7:45 a.m., the dispatcher said. Another vehicle was in the ditch along southbound US-23 at the ramp to eastbound I-94.

Secondary roads were posing the biggest challenge to motorists. Washtenaw County Road Commission trucks are out salting and clearing roads, she said.

Today's forecast calls for widespread blowing snow and scattered snow showers before noon with winds gusting to 36 mph. Little additional snow accumulation is expected.

Traveling both Washtenaw and Wayne County this morning....Washtenaw was much better on the roads that I traveled. I was surprised.

I left the house at 7:10 this morning and was dismayed to turn on to what actually looked like an ice rink (Packard, east of Carpenter). Happily, at Carpenter, road conditions dramatically improved. When I got on the roads again, just after 8, they were even better still. I'm so over winter!
