We need Tim Walberg's common sense, conservative approach in U.S. House

By Letters to the Editor

Please stand with us to reject the disgusting campaign being run by Mark Schauer’s political machine. Mr. Schauer is obviously ashamed to run on his ultra-liberal record and, therefore, is using the Democrat’s old tactics of trying to scare voters with false accusations, distortions and words taken out of context by his opponent, Tim Walberg. Haven’t we had enough of this kind of garbage!

The truth and differences are obvious: Walberg supports a Balanced Budget Amendment, while Schauer voted for Speaker Pelosi’s budget that will increase the national debt by over $1 trillion each year. Walberg received the “Taxpayer’s Hero” award from Citizens Against Government Waste, while Schauer voted for the $862 billion stimulus package that wasted taxpayers’ money and failed to reduce unemployment.

Walberg has stated he will work to repeal Obamacare and replace it with common sense, patient-centered reforms. Schauer voted for, and helped author, the trillion-dollar, Obama-Pelosi government takeover of health care. Walberg has never voted for a tax increase and understands that reducing taxes across the board encourages hard work, investment and job creation.

Schauer voted for the national “cap and trade” energy tax, over $500 billion in tax hikes in the health care bill and even introduced a bill to raise the income tax by 18 percent.

We must send a message to Washington that we have had enough and we want our country back! We need a common sense conservative, Tim Walberg, who will listen to our concerns and represent our beliefs of low taxes and less government. Please stand with us!

Granholm and the Dems have had a long 8 years now to work their "magic programs and tax increases" - it has done nothing. Michigan is dying.. Avg salary down $11k/yr to $44kyr. Employment is down and falling. Poverty up. Michigan is one of the Worst States to do business. Property values are toilet bound - need a house - 1$ in Detroit 1,000's to choose from. Republicans are the only ones who can raise the level of investor confidence in this state. SUV's 'commnents' are of 0% value - Walberg has never voted for a tax increase and that is what counts - Michigan needs that level of certainty to build confidence in the hiring world. Lansing also needs representatives who will actually let businesses expand and not raise taxes and ever expanding regulations like Granhole did to us. Blown away yet - sUv. I am.

Canham's Citizens Against Government Waste, a front for big business: David Uhlmann, a former top environmental crimes prosecutor has been quoted as saying about the W.R. Grace: "There's never been a case where so many people were sickened or killed by environmental crime." After asbestos injury claims unexpectedly nearly doubled in 2000, W. R. Grace & Company filed for bankruptcy protection in 2001. The United States Department of Justice alleged that Grace had transferred 4 to 5 billion dollars to spin-off companies it had recently purchased, shortly before declaring bankruptcy. Justice Department attorneys alleged that this amounted to a "fraudulent transfer" of money in order to protect Grace from civil suits related to asbestos. The bankruptcy court ordered the companies to return nearly $1 billion to Grace, which will remain as part of the assets to consider in the bankruptcy hearings. The company has a history of environmental crimes, which were summarized in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer on 18 November 1999, headlining "The History of W.R. Grace & Co." These crimes were the basis for the bestselling non-fiction book and popular motion picture, "A Civil Action," which concerned the pollution-destruction of neighborhoods in Massachusetts by W.R. Grace & Co.

Questions for Do Not Taunt: Do you agree with Walburg that dinosaurs and humans walked the earth at the same time? Do you believe that earth was created in 7 days, 6000 years ago? Do you support Citizens United? Citizens United is an attack on democracy. Aren't you you even a little bit dismayed that Canham, a multimillionaire, would cite Citizens Against Government Waste which is a front for a billionaire, Peter Grace, who let his workers die of toxic exposure to asbestos while fighting their claims tooth and nail? If killing workers is Ok with you, what do you value? Anything?

Wow. Detroit was destroyed by Democrats and Granholm destroyed Michigan's economy. What does right-wind Koolaid taste like anyway. Fact: Racism and resulting riots played a major role in the destruction of Detroit. Fact: White flight left the city gutted. Fact: Dividing and destroying neighborhoods with highways played a major role. Fact: Losing the car industry caused a severe economic blow to both Detroit and Michigan. Fact: The U.S. auto industry has been in decline for over 40 years. The decline accelerated when Engler, aka toadman, was governor. Fact: U.S. auto executives were incompetent and the U.S. car companies built awful cars. Fact: None of what you point out is because of Democrats. The reality is that in the final year of the criminal Bush's stolen presidency the economy was in freefall, we were losing 800,000 jobs/month, and he left office with a $1.3 trillion deficit. These are facts. Fact: Bush and his criminal conspiracy lied us into two wars (not paid for, gave Medicare D to the pharma companies (not paid for, and deregulated our government into a close call with a depression.

Chip - I am saying that 8 years of a Single State Recession is enough! Dem programs and high taxes do not create jobs. Granholm raised taxes and what happened - even more job loss. Michigan is very ill.. How many more years will Michigan suffer like this; 13%+ unemployment (should it be 20%? perhaps 30%?), sky high foreclosures, bankruptcies everywhere, businesses moving out, entire cities basically being vacated, & Dems considering higher taxes and yet more Gov programs. Do you not see this? Do you want more of this? Do you want Michigan to suffer even more of the same? Granholm and her Dem State Reps have had 8 years to 'deal' with this and all she did was raise taxes and liquidate any reserves the State had.

nosuv - no malince here. So you must think that Detroit is the model that Michigan should follow - as the last 40 some years Detroit has been a solid Democrat run City with nearly 2 million people in the early 60's. Since then... - the population has fallen by some 900,000+, the crime title of Murder capital has been well earned, there are about 80,000 vacant structures, only about 30% of the kids graduate high school, and perhaps half the city is functionally illiterate. Is this the great Dem model we should follow in Michigan? Is there a Dem model somewhere that actually works in Michigan? The Dems had their chance, spent the taxes (and all reserves), had their programs (for decades), had their reforms (over and over again) - and in the end = it doesn't work. Programs do not equal compassion. Those are not Republican failures - they are 100% Dem failures. Time to boot the Dems.

Facts are so troubling for conservatives. First, Bush II had the WORST job creation of any president since WWII. Bush left office with a Dow Jones Index at about the same level of his first day in office. Bush left the country with two wars and job losses of 800,000 per month. He left President Obama with a $1.3 trillion deficit and an economy in free fall. Bush created $6-7 trillion in new debt during his sickening, disgusting criminalization of the White House. Bush and Paulsen bailed out the banks after the stock market lost $1.2 trillion in value in a single day. Someone made a remark about Nancy P draining the swamp. Unfortunately, right-wing Republicans didn't go extinct overnight. They are still slithering through the swamp spreading fear and hate. Fear and hate is all the offer and the dumbest of the dumbest get fooled over and over again. Tim Walberg is a minor intellect with a serious flaw - he's a nut. A destructive, dishonest, and incredibly dumb nut. Plus, he looks like Alfred E. Newman or the ugly bully in Christmas Story. I didn't know the Alfred E. Newman grew up in western Michigan.

Again - the most important thing Michigan can do to lower it's 13.1% unemployment rate is to kick the Dems far far out of office. We don't need more Government Programs ad'nauseam - We don't need taxes ad'nauseam. Have Dems ever created a free market job? NO- they have not. We need businesses to start hiring. End of story. Schuaer is a jobs killer. Walberg will push to get businesses hiring again.

OK mdike, let's talk about our religious beliefs. I don't believe that cavemen and dinosaurs lived at the same time. Do you? I don't believe that Revelations is a literal blueprint for events that will happen in my lifetime. Do you? Anyone is free in our country to believe what they wish, but "common-sense" would preclude those who believe the world will end soon (and that it's a good thing) from holding public office. Voting records are a minor detail, compared to the end of all life as we know it.

Tue, Oct 19, 2010 : 7:52 a.m.

Once again the Schauer supporters would rather sling religious mud than address Mark Schauer's voting record. One writer did by throwing out vague generalities. The promise, from both Schauer and his boss Nancy, was clear and unequivocal. "No New Taxes On The Middle Class". Would you like to talk about Nancy's promise to run the most ethical Congress ever, or her promise to drain the swamp. How about the Neodemocratic promise that Health Care Reform would be conducted in an open hearing broadcast on C-Span, so that everyone could see who was representing the people and who was representing the corporations. All Schauer supporters have to offer are bigoted attacks on Walbergs religious beliefs. Not one of them, including Mark, is bragging about his voting record.

Seems like Republicans like to crow about cutting taxes. Are we talking about Bush's tax cuts; declare two wars, pass a give-away to Big Pharma drug bill for Medicare, and run up $6-7 trillion in new debt (on top of Reagan and Bush I deficits which were record setting). Then call it a tax cut. I would never insinuate that Republicans could be that stupid... Just sayin that some others are sayin it. One of the posters here said that Mark Schauer and President Obama have increased taxes on the middle class. He seems to have forgotten that 1/3 of the stimulus was tax cuts for the middle class. Yes, tax cuts. And, despite Republican lies to the contrary, cap and trade is not a tax on the middle class. It in fact is trying to keep Republicans from supporting terrorist countries with oil dollars. Some think Republicans obviously support terrorism because they are against us becoming independent of foreign oil. Not me. But others are sayin it. Oh, some are saying that Bush left Obama a $1.3 trillion deficit. How can that be? And that the economy was in free-fall losing 800,000 jobs a month during the last half of 2008. How did Obama do that 7 months before becoming president? Obama really is magic. It always amazes me that Americans buy into the Republican clown act. Just sayin...

Here's the uncomfortable truth about this so-called organization. Founded by Peter Grace. Grace... Grace... Couldn't be the billionaire Peter Grace of Grace Industries?!? The company that made billionaires out of the Grace family with its asphalt business - the asphalt business that caused the death of thousands of its workers??!!? And then used quasi-legal shenanigans to keep from paying benefits to families. On the board of directors of Citizens Against Government Waste(as opposed to wasting employees lives) is none other than ORSON SWINDLE. This is too good to make up. Oh, then there is someone named Vin Weber. Weber was "retired from congress" in 1992 after being caught in the House Banking scandal which revealed the bank had repeatedly paid Weber's overdrafts for 125 checks on his account. Nice company you keep, Mrs. Canham. A Bible salesman who believes the earth is 6000 years old who is recommended by the disGRACEful killer of his own employees, a Swindle, and a Swindler. This Opinion Letter is nothing more than a feigned outrage against a good man, Mark Schauer, to put more money in someone's pocket. Would any of you care to discuss his broken campaign promises? How about "No new taxes on the middle class? The so-called Health Reform bill contains a number of middle class taxes including a tax on prosthetics for crippled children and wounded veterans. The massive energy tax called "cap and trade" also comes to mind. Of course Neodemocrats are only interested in slinging invective after the pathetic performance of the last Congress. Well, I guess I should be humble. A Taxpayer's Hero. The "Citizens Against Government Waste." Funded by multimillionaires to keep the multimillionaires multimillionaires! What a great cause for Mrs. Canham. Regardless of how many millions Don Canham made for Michigan, you certainly won't deny that he made multiple millions for himself with Don Canham Enterprises. Also, I am sick and tired of the "Featured Posts" on the Opinion page always featuring posts and opinions by A2.com or your contributors. You have to look under the "everything" tab to find recent opinions except for your own. It is not fair to put your own opinions up front to sway or drive the conversation or vote one way or the other. We are the people, we are the voice, we deserve to have our opinions heard in a timely, convenient, easy to view manner on your website. It is not hard to see what you want us to focus on and believe, but we have minds of our own and will use our own brains to make our decisions if you will present the information and allow us to decide. Fear and anger is too rampant in our society. Allow us to decide who to vote for, agree or disagree with, and what the important "Featured" issues really are. I know you may move "other" opinions up as they receive "interest" but what makes you think your "opinions" start out right away as the interesting, featured ones - because they get the most hits, since they are the first ones you see, oh I see!
