Stop rationing of health care by sweeping out the Democrats on Nov. 2

By Letters to the Editor

Fellow seniors, we have one chance to stop extensive rationing of health care for senior citizens. Do not vote any Democrats back in office. Then the Obamacare health bill can be repealed and replaced with common sense patient-centered reforms.

We will not lose Medicare and there won’t be any need for over $500 billion in tax hikes. Hopefully 400,000 doctors will stay in the profession rather than leave it, as they say they will. Let’s stand together and sweep them out.

"the something for nothing crowd" obviously stops with you - the nothing for anyone crowd. You must have never been sick, at least physically, to believe that healthcare ahould not be available to all of us. What about education, the right to vote and freedom of or from religion?

And while we dream of free health care for everyone (and unicorns and rainbows and lollipops) - could I get a few sports cars thrown in - like some Corvettes - maybe two per family. Everyone should have the right to a free car, and maybe a hot tub, and a big screen TV... Contrary to popular opinion in AA - you are not 'owed' anything. Where does the "something for nothing crowd" stop.

It isn't going to do much good to vote in the Republicans, 'cause Obama has said he will veto any attempt to repeal the health care bill, and the president's seat in the White House isn't up for re-election in 2011, not until 2012 will there be a possibility. Still, he may very well win a second term.

Nancy, Please oh please let the Insurance Corporations be the only ones to "ration" health care. It is they who have the dreaded "death panels" and all managed by those most noble Corporate Lawyers. And all for a (un)healthy, ill begotten profit! Reality is tough to deal with.

Anyone who has ever been to a hospital knows better. Our family had to duct tape a window that would not close in my fathers room at Henry Ford (Cardiac Care Unit-DECEMBER), not only that they "lost" his for about 4 hours one day. Our current system is BROKEN. Universal/single payer is the only way. Just ask the rest of the industrialized world. This is our competition and without a universal health care system we will continue falter. Do you honestly think republicans and corporations will provide better, no even CARE what happens, other than the "bottom line" - PROFITS. These same republicans want to raise the retirement age to 70, which for some exceeds life expectancy. No need to pay out social security when you DEAD.

We already ration health care by one's ability to pay. Universal health care is how civilized industrial nations take care of their citizens. But a vote for a Republican is a vote for the corporations that make money off your pain.

The Obamacare bill written by John Dingell will hurt seniors. It actually cuts funding for Medicare. The bill is a cost shift from medicare to individuals through a mandate that everyone buys health insurance and increases in taxes. Single payer health care will not work in the U.S.(which is the ultimate goal of Obamacare)Canada is encouraging free market reforms because they cannot fund their system. One way Canada controls cost is to restrict the expensive drugs that treat MS, Arthritis, Cancer. The Dingell/Obama plan will end up ratining care to Seniors because that is where the big dollar expenses are. As far as Social Security is concerned, President Bush wanted to make small changes in 2004 to improve the finacial viability of the program. Dems opposed. Social Security nows pays out more money than it takes in. The "trustfund" is full of I.O.U's from the U.S. Treasury. Nice job Dems. Way to protect our future. Stop believing the Dem lies. GOP does not want to privatize Soc. Sec. They want to make the necessary changes to ensure it continues to pay benefits in the future. Something the Dems refuse to do. Vote GOP your financial and physical health depend on it.

It's true that we should demand more patient-centered reforms, such as the single-payer universal health care that a majority of Americans wanted when the health care debate began, but which both parties failed to even consider. Despite their shortcomings, the democrats are the only ones who have any real solutions. The republicans are actually promising to take away even the small gains we made with health care reform.

And what, pray tell, are these common sense solutions you speak of? There's certainly no sign of them in this letter. I guess that's what I get for expecting policy solutions from someone who uses the phrase "Obamacare."

As a senior, I have done my homework. Find out where all the candidates stand on health care, social security and medicare, then form an opinion. Vote for all Democrats to secure our future.
