Stephen Gill can help guide the selection of the next WCC president
We have long served the community as staff, volunteers, and board members of various community non-profit organizations providing important public services. Our experience makes it clear that thoughtful, careful, experienced, and committed leadership is essential to the successful operation of any public body.
We are supporting Stephen J. Gill in his bid for re-election to a seat on the Washtenaw Community College Board of Trustees. Six years ago Steve brought his experiences in higher education and consulting to the board.
During his service as a WCC Trustee, and as current board chair, he has demonstrated his understanding of the careful balance that must be struck providing leadership, but also, facilitating the work of capable staff and volunteers.
During next year trustees will hire a new president at WCC. Having Steve Gill guide that process will ensure the college’s stability, growth, and vitality into the future. At a time when there is tremendous pressure on our educational institutions to improve the economy and educate a higher percentage of our citizens, we need Steve's proven leadership at the helm of our Community College. Please join us in voting the whole ballot on November 2, 2010 and supporting Stephen J. Gill for re-election to the WCC Board of Trustees. Molly Resnik John Martin Ann Arbor

This is great! And, I was wondering if the consulting firm that the college is going to contract with to help it find a new president was bid out. This is the board policy as I understand for contracts exceeding $3,000. While I am impressed with all that Washtenaw Community College has done, I still find it difficult to appreciate the insensitivity of a Board that votes to raise tuition by 10% in the same retreat they spend $4,000 on food and then about the same on lodging....OUTSIDE OF WASHTENAW COUNTY! As a taxpayer, I can't begin to express how offended I was that my tax dollars were being spent to support businesses in other counties! And, the explanation provided by Dr. Whitworth did nothing to assure me that my hard-earned contributions to support WCC were being spent wisely. As I said GREAT!!!! I hope the board considers many possibilities. But, it would be even better if the board might consider the views of those who contribute their hard-earned tax dollars to support WCC. What provisions in the search process will solicit and help assure that these views are known and respected?
