Senate procedural rule makes mockery of election process
By Letters to the Editor
This procedural rule of the Senate makes a mockery of the election process. The United States Senate was not designed to operate by consensus. It operates by majority. That's 51 percent for the mathematically challenged among us.

Then change the rule. I can't wait to here all those bombastic speech's by Senant Democrats, who used this procedure so well in blocking Bush's pick's to the federal bench.

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Bemis, Would you have written this letter if the Republicans had a majority?

I'm glad the Senate is structured to provide a check against the One Party Rule that is the current Democratic Party. Unless we would be like China with a dictatorship--we should be thankful of the checks and balaces provided by our constitutional republic. This week we saw another aspect of that check-and-balance with the Supreme Court ruling that overturns the anti-free speech "campaign finance reform." That misguided law was an attempt to silence free speech prior to elections. It was couched in anti-corporate language, but really adversely effected all Americans (other than left-wing dominant media, which was exempted). It prevented us little people from having our voices heard through the organizations we choose to join to amplify our (otherwise ignored) views. Whether you were a member of a union, or other "special interest group" like the NRA, Sierra Club, or any other group--you were essentially muzzled. Politicians loved it.

The truly challenged don't know the meaning of "Republic".

But it is designed to protect the values of the minority. If a simple majority had been required, a tryannical majority could ram through a repressive piece of legislation without any input from the minority. Oh yeah, that what the democrats tried to do.
