Rise: The Color Run

After a successful Ypsilanti debut in July, people were raving about how much fun they had participating in this race. Who didn’t see at least one picture of a friend on Facebook covered in neon bursts from head to toe? After the first Ypsilanti run competing for participants with the Ann Arbor Art Fair, it will be interesting to see if the event manages to be even more popular the second time around in May 2013.

Fall: Whoever put the 20-pound carp in West Park

While carp are fairly common in most areas, introducing a 20-inch-long, 20-pound version of the fish into a city-constructed, small pond can be massively destructive — not to mention illegal. Since the pond is not connected to a larger body of water, the carp had to be brought in by a person. A fish this size could significantly damage such a small ecosystem still in the process of being built up. This new West Park resident has left many around here just plain unimpressed.
