Medicare should be expanded to include everybody

By Letters to the Editor

I believe that the United States needs a single-payer system, Medicare for All.

Citizens in other free-market countries have no major medical bills. They contribute to a national fund, similar to our traditional Medicare, that pays the bills. Citizens have little or no additional costs for health care. I want that for us. Medicare can be improved and expanded to cover everyone in the country.

Our economy is in critical need of the cost-efficiency that traditional Medicare had prior to the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003.

My goal would be the passage of HR676, a non-profit, single-payer national health insurance. The next best thing would be putting the Medicare option back in the current health care bill that passed both chambers in December. This bill should NOT be signed into law without the Medicare option!

We can have a healthier economy with healthier people!

Remember, the only person between you and your Dr is the health care denier for the Insurance Co that rents our govt! They take our premiums, pay their CEO 10,000 times what a normal person makes with the money that should have gone to health care and then rent our govt to assure their evil ways can continue! We pay for the insurance of every single person that is lucky enough to work for the govt, public sector or a civilized progressive or unionized company either through our taxes or the cost of the goods and services we purchase. The only people we won't pay for are the less fortunate among us, most of whom are women and children! Aren't we just the best? We need to join the civilized countries of the world. We need single payer.

I agree. You only have to look at the healthcare systems of European countries to realize the benefits of a single payer system. The 2 largest nurses associations, the American Nurses Association & the California Nurses Association which are 3 million strong, are advocating for a single payer system. Nurses are on the frontlines of healthcare and see the whole picture of our broken system every single day. 3 million nurses can't be wrong!
