Mark Ouimet has had a positive impact on Michigan's business climate

By Letters to the Editor

I am supporting State Representative Mark Ouimet because he is an effective team player in the effort led by Gov. Rick Snyder to "Fix Michigan."

In a short period of time Michigan's fortunes have turned from a bottom ranking of states friendly to business to a top 10 spot. A better business climate means business owners —large and small — will take a chance on locating or expanding their businesses in our communities.

Business expansion means jobs. For example, the elimination of the Michigan Business Tax (that onerously taxed revenue not profit) is an important reason perceptions about doing business in Michigan are changing. New businesses are willing to establish themselves and existing businesses gain confidence to stay, grow and hire Michigan workers.

Mark Ouimet has played a very important role in this effort and of I urge anyone who wants to see Michigan continue its turnaround to support Mark too. We still have a long way to go but we're headed in the right direction. It takes effective and committed people to get the job done. Mark has the ability to bring people together, find common ground, and find solutions. In fact, the Michigan Township Association voted Mark "Legislator of the Year" citing his civility and willingness to work towards finding solutions.

Mark is hard working, open-minded, and effective — his record proves he gets things done. Michigan needs Mark Ouimet (and more good people like him) representing his constituents and the interests of the state. Please join me in supporting Mark Ouimet for 52nd District Representative.

As alluded to elsewhere, my problem with Ouimet is he is a highly partisan ideologue who wraps himself in moderate, bipartisan clothing. The next substantive vote he takes that is not in line with the Republican caucus will be the first one.

Mr. Ouimet's voting to shift money out of the pockets of our neediest citizens is not only morally repugnant, it is also very short-sighted. In the long run, a healthy economy depends on ordinary people having money to spend. The tax shift has been a "grab-the-money-and-run" tactic.

I can find no data that shows Mark Ouiment actively helped improve the economy in Michigan. The auto bailout, thank you President Obama, did more for Michigan's economy than anything Mark might have done. Being a team player is important, being a rubber stamp for an ideology is something else. Unfortunately Mark's record reveals that he has voted against the interests of the poor, the middle class, students and seniors by the enormous shift of billions of dollars from these groups of people to corporate special interests and the wealthy. He also voted agains the provision of women's basic health services, gave tacit approval to the effort to pass a law making contraception illegal and voted to end in-home care for thousands of seniors. All of these votes represented a shifting of monies from those who could least afford it. His votes raised the costs of care for seniors and for student education which now needs to come out of the pockets of families who can least afford the increase in costs. I see no reason to vote for Mark - we need someone who will truly represent the best interests of Michigan and all of its citizens.

Seems simple to me: If you want continued progress vote for Mark if you want to continue to Granholm years vote for Gretchen

Mark Ouimet has already done so much to get Michigan back on the right track in terms of jobs and the economy. You can count on my vote again in November, Mark

Not sure who deserves support--a Republican who pretended to me moderate during the last election cycle and ended up being a right wing rubber stamp. OR a Democrat who claims to be progressive but has made campaign contributions to Republican Rick Snyder. Textbook examples of why people dislike politicians.

Mark Ouimet has been helping turn this state around! Michigan was at the bottom of every list we want to be on top of and the top of every list we want to be at the bottom of. We are moving in the right direction now, thanks to people like Mark and Gov. Snyder!
