Eaton understands importance of public safety, city services

By Letters to the Editor

I strongly support Jack Eaton for city council representative for the 4th ward. Eaton has demonstrated that he has the knowledge of city issues and the leadership skills to move Ann Arbor forward.

There are many important issues in this campaign, but personally I am most concerned about our city's fire services which should meet national standards. Eaton is committed to fiscal responsibility, and I strongly agree with his views on the importance of providing city services and restoring the levels of public safety. I am disappointed in the voting record of our current 4th ward representatives. Eaton understands that the city council works for the citizens of Ann Arbor, and that we deserve responsiveness and transparency in city government. His opponent has misrepresented his views on many issues. Voters in the 4th ward can visit Jack Eaton’s website to find out why Eaton is the best candidate for Ann Arbor.

You are what your platform says. He is a democrat in name only. He is 1) anti-public transportation (against a new modernized train station, against expanding bus service) 2) anti-affordable housing (he has been against every single affordable housing complex that has been brought before the city) 3) anti-student housing, (against all newer student housing in order to protect the slumlords) 4) was against providing a safe, asbestos, radon free building for the police. He claims he is pro-police yet didn't care about their working conditions. 5) he is FOR RETURNING federal dollars that already have been awarded to the city in order to prove some kind of fiscal point (tea party ideology) None of those things sound like a democrat to me. Residents of Ann Arbor be carful who you vote for! And it should not be Eaton if you believe in public transportation, affordable housing, federal assistance etc..

Eaton is an attorney who deals with progressive labor issues. Calling him a Tea Partier, besides being libel and slander, is just so out of touch with reality, it's ludicrous. He'll make an outstanding member of council in my 4th Ward, after years of the invisible Margie Teall, who sat silent while the Mayor and others on Council bashes the police and fire employees during contract negotiations--something more in line with the Tea Party anti-union haters on the right. Eaton stands of real Ann Arbor values and deserves our votes next week.

Alan, why do you think you are obligated to make veiled threats of slander and libel? Please get off your high horse and quit trying to impede free speech, and it is considered free speech in spite of what you think.

Eaton is a Tea Partier. He is for giving back federal funds that have been awarded to the city for public projects. No thanks.
