Northfield Township police searching for suspicious driver who claimed he worked for the VA

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Northfield Township police are warning residents about a suspicious situation involving a man who claimed he worked for the "Veterans Administration" when he showed up at a house in the township this week.

It occurred on Nollar Road, where a daytime residential burglary occurred recently, Lt. Tim Greene said.

Police say residents should be on the lookout for a maroon older-model four-door Pontiac Bonneville with a spoiler on the back and a “Support Our Troops” bumper sticker.

Police suspect the driver of the vehicle was planning to commit a break-in when he parked at the back of a home Nollar Road at 11:20 a.m. Monday.

The driver of the vehicle was surprised when the homeowner exited and confronted him, police said. The stranger claimed he was working for the VA and was looking for someone named "McGee."

Greene said residents should be aware of a recent increase in daytime residential burglaries. A total of 13 break-ins occurred in October, including ones on Nollar, Five Mile and North Territorial roads.

Anyone with information is asked to call township police at 734-449-8900.

A little more detail on the description of the SUSPECT would be helpful.

Looking at the story, I don't think AA.com was calling it "Veteran's Administration", but rather that's what the suspect said. "Northfield Township police are warning residents about a suspicious situation involving a man who claimed he worked for the "Veterans Administration" when he showed up at a house in the township this week."

Not to nitpick, but VA's official title is now Department of Veterans Affairs (as of 1989: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Department_of_Veterans_Affairs#History)
