North Campus cougar: Searching the woods for the rogue animal
University of Michigan Public Safety officials said they're searching for traces of a cougar reportedly spotted by local residents today on North Campus.
It was not immediately clear whether the cougar was related to the Dexter Bear.
In this video, AnnArbor.com's Nathan Bomey searches for the North Campus cougar.

Intentional vs. unintentional camp, that is the question.

Couldn't catch the cougar on film, but I did get a good a pic of the Eberwhite Woods Panther, which I sent to Nathan. Maybe he'll print it.

@edjasbord: Maybe the cougar was rouge...

I don't think cougars are related to bears, but chow dogs are thought to be, because they are the only other animals with black or blue tongues and the same number of teeth. Other dogs have fewer.

Best piece from Nathan... ever. Have him do more investigative journalism like this, please.

"It was not immediately clear whether the cougar was related to the Dexter Bear." They're second cousins obviously.

This was fun to watch, but "Rogue" is not the right word, and really is anti-ecological, or at least speaks of ecological ignorance. The cougar is native to very piece of the mainland US (excluding perhaps norther Alaska). The reporter may have gone rogue, which was fun, but the cougar has not. I really urge you all to change the title.

One of the definitions of rogue is "vagabond". This cougar--if it even exists--fits that description as cougars have not inhabited these parts for a century.

"It was not immediately clear whether the cougar was related to the Dexter Bear." By birth or interspecies marriage?

I take that this is all meant to be fun...considering cougars are primarily nocturnal creatures. I lived in the mountains for several years--real cougar country. Never saw a cougar. Only the evidence they had been there--bloodied bones of elk as an example. Otherwise, if you go out again, go at night and take some night vision goggles you might get the cougar on camera. Good luck.

Rogue? With a run away deer population, we're going to see a lot more cougars and bears, nothing rogue about that, they are coming back.
