The DNR will be purchasing about 2,000 acres of property in Norvell Township and Manchester Township to create a "River Raisin Recreation Area."

The total land acquisition will cost about $5.5 million. The DNR will be selling some of its property, including some in Oakland County, to provide matching funds, MLive.com reported.

The trust fund grants were recently signed into effect by Gov. Rick Snyder -- which allocated several million dollars to fund Washtenaw County projects.
