Muslim U-M couple tells story of hands-off courtship
As part of its weeklong series Muslims in Michigan, Michigan Radio profiles the courtship of University of Michigan students Sarah Jukaku and Abdul El-Sayed.
The couple talks about deciding to wait until a year after marriage to consummate their relationship and about their decision that all their dates before marriage would be chaperoned.
"All of our courting didn't involve any touching at all, and so in my interpretation of Islamic law, I wasn't allowed to touch her until after we were married," El-Sayed told reporter Jennifer Guerra.
Read and listen to the story on Michigan Radio.

Very interesting. I know a lot of Christian couples that are moving back toward courtship as an alternative to the dating model....although I don't know any that "wait until a year after marriage to consummate their relationship." http://religionannarbor.wordpress.com/
