MSU marching band plays 'Amazing Grace' in honor of U-M trumpeter Patrick Fleming
The death of Patrick Fleming, a trumpeter for the University of Michigan Marching Band, is resonating across the Big Ten.
Several schools sent representatives to the band's practice on Wednesday, and Michigan State University students posted a video on Youtube showing the MSU band playing "Amazing Grace" in Fleming's honor.
"On behalf of our band, we just want to offer our sincerest condolences," said Simon Holoweiko, an MSU drum major as the video starts.

Classy and yet sad at the same time. Both my children were high school marching band members and it is, indeed, a very tight knit group. Losing a member would be like losing someone in your own family. My condolences to the young man's family and to his marching band "family".

Yes, this is a wonderful gesture from Michigan State and the other universities. For an area like football contention to be the stage for such classy behaviors should be an example for everyone. Sometimes, the individual must be put above the crowd and noise.

What made this story even more remarkable was the touching show of unity and compassion from the Michigan State, Ohio State, and Eastern Michigan marching bands. Traditional rivalries were completely set aside as representatives from these bands took time out of their busy schedules to travel to Ann Arbor on Wednesday to reach out to their Michigan Marching Band colleagues as they struggle with this unthinkable loss. My sincerest condolences to Patrick's family and to his extended MMB family.

Just watched the video and was touched by the heartfelt condolences and the rendition of Amazing Grace by the Spartan Marching Band. My thoughts and prayers are with the family also at this most tragic time.
