About $72,000 will be spent for road projects in Freedom Township this year, and while the township will pick up about $44,900 of the costs, matching funds and the Washtenaw County Road Commission will pay the rest.

For residents who live and drive on gravel roads, about $7,875 will be spent improving the surface.

Plus, the drainage should improve on Bethel Church Road from Steinbach west as the township and Road Commission agreed to ditch the area, replace a culvert and berm the road in that area at a cost of $30,000.

In addition, two applications of dust control will be applied to the 46.76 miles of certified gravel roads in the township at a cost of about $34,200.
