Missing Pittsfield Township juvenile believed to be suicidal, police say
Update: Pittsfield Township teen who left suicide note found unhurt at friend's home.
Police were searching the Huron River Sunday for a missing 16 year-old boy from Pittsfield Township who indicated he wanted to commit suicide by drowning himself.
The boy's parents first reported him missing around 6 p.m. Saturday and said he was suicidal, Ann Arbor Police Sgt. Mike Scherba said.
"They believe he was seen in Ann Arbor and there was a note that was found by a citizen that we believe may belong to the juvenile that was found in Gallup Park on the banks of the Huron River," Scherba said. "The note indicated that the individual may have wanted to drown himself in the Huron River."
The note was found Sunday morning, he said.
The missing boy is described as a 5-foot-11 black male weighing around 145 pounds. He was last seen wearing and a gray and black North Face coat with gray sweatpants.
Command units from Ann Arbor and the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office were investigating. A county dive team launched a boat Sunday afternoon and was exploring the river using sonar equipment, Scherba said.
"We've got a few more leads to run down, and obviously that would be an option to activate the dive team if the leads don't go anywhere and the officers don't find anything," Scherba said earlier in the day.
Anyone with information is asked to call Pittsfield Township police at (734) 822.4911 or Ann Arbor police at (734) 794-6920.

Am I the only one who felt a horrible sense of fear and panic when reading this? How horrible for this young man and for his family. I hope and pray he has had second thoughts and is okay.
