Michigan Rising group targets Rick Snyder in 2nd recall effort
The group Michigan Rising filed new recall petition language against Rick Snyder last week in Washtenaw County, accusing the governor of "abusing" children with cuts to food aid and school funds.

"Governor Snyder has abused the children of Michigan. He cut thousands of children off food aid. He robbed $400 million from the School Aid Fund, and then slashed school payments. This forced children into crowded classes. Then he signed more laws that privatize services, attack teachers and blame unions," she said.
A clarity hearing will be held in Washtenaw County on April 9 at 1:45 p.m. If the petition language is approved, Snyder will have 10 days to appeal the decision.
Michigan Rising is aiming to collect up to 1.2 million signatures to get the recall onto the November ballot. The group needs at least 800,000. A previous recall attempt yielded 500,000 signatures.
The group is planning a May 5 rally in Lansing to kick off the campaign.

I drive through every state in the midwest and I see new home construction and business expansion. Drive through Michigan and what do you see? Empty homes and closed businesses. Did this all happen in he last two years under the evil Snyder and his corporate buddies? It is probably because no business will relocate here because of the state's image as a union dominated, welfare wonderland.

Property taxes are high because of union influence. Unionj influence increases the cost of goods, services, and impedes competition. Unions place the cost burden of the few on the many who suffer as a result of their political influence. why should I give more to recieve less?

If 500,000 signature or close to it were raised in the first recall attempt, and few were raised in Detroit, don't you think there's a HUGE probability that it will easily succeed in attaining the 800,000+ required to get a ballot success given the illegal PA 4 activities there now ? I do. I'm sorry to hear that Monica was disillusioned in recall 1, but hope that this new recall will have the energy and passion of the first with renewed energy caused by the ongoing PA 4 issues and the republican pushing of their radical right-wing push to the 1950's.

Sparty, "Bitter" really? It's about transparency. So, it's OK to not tell the truth to volunteers that are assisting with the campaign for recalling Gov. Rick Snyder for free? How is that going to achieve the overall goal? It's OK to say that's 500K signatures exist, when is a great probability that's a fallacy. So, its' OK to step down in the sandpit of the other side, just to "go along to get along". Not so much, sorry!

Sparty, I totally understand how you're feeling and believe me, I HATE to be disillusioned with Recall Rick 2.0 based off the actions of Recall Rick 1.0. Nevertheless nearly the same team, minus a Treasurer of Recall Rick 1.0 who will not associate further with the original group at this point, is in charge. Some members of Recall Rick 2.0 were part of the core group which told alleged fallacies about total number of signatures collected during Recall Rick 1.0. To say that 500K is off the mark, is an understatement on what I have heard from various resources on where true number was, and Sparty, that's just 1/4 of the story. Gov. Snyder SHOULD be recalled but, with another group in the lead. Maybe a member or two of Recall Rick 2.0 group could be CONSULTANTS on Recall Rick 2.5, I don't know...but leading the charge, no. IMHO this charge is extremely important a large number of Michiganders to re-experience what a number of volunteers, members of the public who signed the petitions in good faith and those who desired to see Gov. Snyder recalled, did in Recall Rick 1.0. Wish Sparty, I could get more into this here, but this story has many twists and turns. Right now the focus must be on receiving real information on the actual (un-inflated) number of signatures received on Recall Rick 1.0. As a person that initially supported Recall Rick 1.0, I can't stand behind this recall with the same leadership as the previous. Many people who put blood, sweat and tears into the last recall campaign were lied too, disrespected and frankly insulted by actions of the PAC leadership. These people aren't a 'disgruntle' few. Instead where're talking about hundreds of individuals who were volunteers (i.e.-not paid in any form or fashion) who once they raised about the total number of signatures obtained in Recall Rick 1.0 (and a list of other questionable actions) were removed from the campaign and in some cases, felt threaten. If possible, I would LOVE to see Gov. Rick Snyder removed from office but, only with a new organization, not associated with Recall Rick 1.0 leading the charge. Also, please media resources (hint-A2.com) check into the claim of 500K signatures in Recall Rick 1.0, as its' inflated.

Fire Rick, I understand your point but asking pointed questions about a fallacy at best of 500K signatures obtained on Recall Rick 1.0, is the right thing to do. Call us 'Truth-ers' but volunteers deserve facts and not spun information to suit whoever's grand plan. Again, if the core group gave the volunteers clear, accurate and factual information during Recall Rick 1.0, the probability of trust would be greater. This is not what happened. That's not our news resource fault. Instead it's the fault of the leadership of Recall Rick 1.0. With such, they should be willing to step down and allow a dedicate team of new leaders get this job done.

@Monica: The only way to accomplish the goal of getting the Ricktator out of office is to work together to get it done. Holding a grudge over Recall Rick 1.0 isn't going to serve you (or any of us) well. Even if you choose not to support Recall Rick 2.0, then at least refrain from throwing those who are doing the work under the bus. The bottom line is that no one else is stepping up to lead the second recall attempt (except the original group). If they're crazy enough to try again, then let them. We have to find a way out of this mess, and in-fighting isn't going to get it done.

Kind of amusing and a strong indication of where the recall effort stands. That such emotional language is used gives me the impression that this campaign is even further out from the edge than the previous.

Another failed effort. Rick is the best thing that has come to Michigan; that is unless you are a union lover or a liberal, then this Governer might not be for you. Sadly, Governor Snyder has actually avoided the stuff that has gone on in Indiana and Wisconsin, but that isn't enough for most here who fight progress in changing times.

You should be for the recall if your in a union,your a teacher or retired teacher/administrator,you are lower middle class or poor and do not like paying more in taxes and giving the rich a tax break,if you think it's ok for the rich to get richer and the middle class to shrink more,i.e. less disposable income to support the economy due to increases in health coverage, gas prices,food prices,increase to Secretary of state for your auto plates,all these items and more do nothing to increase your home values when your neighbors and or new ones now are making less or have less.

Or Taxed on a pension, Same sex partner denied ability to get benefits, less unemployment available, less workers comp coverage, less auto catastrophic coverage available, upset with reduced K-12 and higher education funding while businesses get $1.8 billion dollar tax cut, all safety net programs cut for the poor, kids forced to say the pledge of allegiance while it's against the law, their weight reported to the State, Stem cell research now threatening cut off of higher education funding at UM, Right to work laws threatened, etc. etc. etc.

Neither the MEA or the UAW contributed money or resources to the first recall attempt. Further, none of the 500,000+ signatures gathered were paid for. The first recall attempt was entirely grassroots. Hopefully the major labor unions in the state will jump on board with the second recall attempt right after they're finished collecting signatures to amend the Michigan Constitution to protect collective bargaining rights.

There was no "law" being enforced in this event. So ruled not one, but three different judges, when they all threw out every charge and publicly disparaged "law enforcement" behavior as unconstitutional and highly irregular. It is enlightening to see how many people are 100% in support of our march to tyranny. The rule of law is so over in this country, and I'm sorry it pleases you.

Snyder deserves no credit for unemployment being down, though he'll certainly try to take some. And spending should be up, not down. Cutting spending in times like these is not the way to lift the economy. Granholm was no picnic either, but Snyder's been a considerable downgrade.

@Angry Moderate - A point of clarification ... not one person was paid to collect signatures in the first recall attempt. It was 100% grassroots. As for not being able to get enough people to sign, that couldn't be farther from the truth. There were events where people would practically knock each other over to get to a clipboard. The downfall of the first recall attempt was a lack of organization and not enough volunteers (two things that can be rectified before the second recall attempt begins in May).

Just so everyone is on the same page, this is the first of many articles that will follow (the second) recall effort as if it were an actual political election. We will get updates on how many signatures they have, how many they need, and their target dates. We will read countless optimistic comments about the effort (despite the facts that these never really work in Michigan) and of course, we will read countless comments bashing the governor. This is what is called a media agenda -- push the cause (despite its lack of actual news value) and avoid any criticism of the cause (like, you know, how they often fail and waste time and money) and above all else, make it seem like everyone wants this to happen (despite the fact, again, that these efforts fail.) Avoid any positive news about the governor (or the state of Michigan) in the same story to avoid hurting the narrative. There are really one three times a recall effort is newsworthy *When it is announced *When it meets the signatures by deadline/When it fails to meet the needed signatures by deadline. *When it is placed on the ballot. But that is besides the point, we will get the updates (as noted above) whether we need them or not. So get ready for the annarbor.com recall agenda 2.0 folks -- I am ready for it, are you?
