Michigan-Notre Dame game forecast: Soggy

By Cindy Heflin

Fans hoping to stay dry in the stands during tonight’s Michigan-Notre Dame game might want to pray, cross their fingers or find a four-leaf clover.

Although forecasters earlier expected wet weather to move out of the area in time for the game, the chance of rain is expected to linger into the evening hours. It’s expected to be cloudy all day with a 50 percent chance of showers during the daylight hours and a 30 percent chance of rain tonight.

Wet weather over the past few days has already closed popular fan parking areas at two golf courses for the game.

The Ann Arbor area has received about 2.5 inches of rain the past three days, including 0.8 inch in the 24-hour period ending at 7 a.m. today, according to the National Weather Service.

But Michigan football fans weren’t letting the soggy conditions spoil their fun. Craig Schmatz, a U-M alumnus from Birmingham, turned out for ESPN’s "College GameDay" program, broadcasting from Ingalls Mall on campus. “It’s a big crowd given the rain,” he said. “It doesn’t seem to dampen the spirit.”
