Man jailed on parole violation after University of Michigan police find marijuana

By Lee Higgins

An Ypsilanti man was jailed Monday on a parole violation after University of Michigan police officers searched his apartment and found a half-pound of marijuana, university police spokeswoman Diane Brown said.

Officers were led to the 24-year-old's North River Street apartment in Ypsilanti after executing a search warrant at his brother's apartment on the same street during an investigation into a June car break-in, Brown said.

While the search was under way, the man appeared to be removing items from the home, Brown said.

He gave officers consent to search his apartment down the street, where the drugs and drug paraphernalia were found, police said.

The original investigation involved a June 10 car break-in at the University of Michigan Matthaei Botanical Gardens. A purse and bank cards were taken.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.

So a parolee has 1/2 pound of pot. A 1/2 lb is worth how much? Is the parolee employed? How long has he been out of prison? Is he another fine MPRI graduate?

they obviously went through the legal procedure to make this a valid search. they had a search warrant. this is not the first time police from ann arbor arrested someone in ypsi. but im sure ypsi police knew what was going on.

Why, how, did UM police secure a search warrant? I didn't think they had the right to search even in A2 unless it was UM property. Were Ypsi police consulted, told, involved? Shouldn't they have been? Of course, NONE of this is in the story which is like reading a police log. Improve your writing skills. Try thinking of the details that make a story instead of repeating the police log's details. Give us more to go on, more of a real news story.
