An Ypsilanti Township man was convicted of murder Wednesday in the shooting death of a Superior Township man outside an apartment complex in January.

A jury found Larry Hunter, 27, guilty of first-degree murder and multiple firearms violations after deliberating for roughly four hours, court officials said. Sentencing is set for July 21.

Hunter argued during his trial that he had an alibi, but prosecutors showed he shot 30-year-old Jamar Gardner outside the Sycamore Meadows apartments in the 8700 block of MacArthur Boulevard during a fight on Jan. 23.

Marget Pittman, who is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and assault with intent to commit great bodily harm in the incident, is scheduled to enter a plea in Washtenaw County Circuit Court Friday morning, records show. Further details about the agreement were not immediately available.

Police said LaShawn Covington, Pittman’s 18-year-old son, is scheduled to stand trial Monday on assault charges stemming from the incident.
