I feel anytime a parent is at home, in a car, where drugs are IS Child Neglect. Lets not forget he has an outstanding warrant also. My heart goes out to the 2 1/2 year old.

I fail to see how the charges of "child neglect" are warranted. Having drugs in a car does not equal child neglect. If someone were to reply, "Oh, he gets high". Does he do it while supervising the child? We do not know. Having drugs = child neglect would mean that anyone who is "sick" and has a Rx for medical marijuana would also be guilty.

I might have to disagree about your taker on dealers as a whole, there is one in town called Compassionate Care right?

Like you, I'm not so much concerned about the presence of "drugs" in the vehicle. What bother me and gets into the area of child neglect is that the deal took place with the kid in the car. Dealers are not known for theit kindness and charity. Something may have gone sour quickly.

How does having drugs in the car translate to child neglect? Was the child not in a car seat? Filthy? Hungry? Dehydrated? Hell, I see plenty of drug-free parents texting on the porch, oblivious to the fact that their toddlers are two feet from being in the street, or are approaching animals they aren't familiar with. Where's the child neglect charges for them?

I think the charge comes from him buying drugs with the child present. Of course we all a different idea of what quality time is.

Ignatz, based on your point wouldn't something like "child endangerment" be more appropriate? I assume there is such a thing?

Agreed. A "child neglect" charge is not substantiated by the facts provided in this article. Maybe the "freelance journalist" could provide more details for the readers?
