Man arrested after he attempted to set fire to Superior Township apartment
An Ypsilanti Township man was arrested Saturday after he poured bleach inside a Superior Township apartment and attempted to light it on fire, Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies said.
The 26-year-old man, who was heavily intoxicated, assaulted a woman who attempted to intervene at the apartment in the 8800 block of MacArthur Boulevard, deputies said.
The woman suffered minor injuries and received treatment at a local hospital, sheriff's spokeswoman Sgt. Lisa King said.
The attempted arson occurred after the man arrived at the apartment about 10 p.m., looking for a woman he dated in the past who wasn't home, deputies said.
The man ransacked the upstairs and poured bleach throughout the house, a sheriff's department summary said. When the arson attempt failed, he left the area, deputies said.
The man later showed up at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital with non life-threatening injuries he suffered at another location, the summary said. It's unclear how he was injured.Â
Deputies say he assaulted medical personnel while receiving treatment.
He is expected to be arraigned on criminal charges today at the Washtenaw County Jail, King said.
