Little taste of spring won't last: Winter storm expected to hit Ann Arbor area Sunday afternoon
If you have President's Day off, count yourself lucky.
The Ann Arbor area is expected to see up to 3 inches of snow and more than a quarter inch of ice accumulation as part of a winter storm moving through the region Sunday and overnight into Monday.
The National Weather Service issued the winter storm watch Saturday for a period beginning at noon Sunday and continuing through 7 a.m. Monday, with the heaviest accumulations expected during the evening hours Sunday, said meteorologist Matt Mosteiko with the service's White Lake Township office.
The advisory comes just a day after what felt like the first blush of spring. The National Weather Service recorded a high Friday of 54 degrees at its metro Detroit station, 10 degrees shy of the record of 64 set in 1884.
By Sunday, the area could see a sandwich of snow and then ice and then more snow, Motseiko said, with roads growing slippery.
"It'll be a really heavy, wet snow," he said, and drivers are urged to be careful.

Well, it's February in Michigan. I appreciated the nice little break, but we all knew it's not wasn't going to last.

You know what is even funnier? Ann Arbor children are already off this week for their mid winter break. Some schools in Wayne county are off for their mid winter and will not have to worry about a day off as well. But for those who have school? I wish them luck in this mess. Sounds like that last storm that caught a lot of people off guard. Not me. I get weather alerts and know what is going on all the time weather wise.

I have a better idea. Make the roads out of salt.

This has changed to a winter storm warning, so get ready. The ice will be the biggest problem, according to predictions. Schools are not in session this week, so that's the good news for some folks. The Monday holiday should also help with reducing traffic. Let's hope the salt trucks are out BEFORE the storm hits to pre-salt roads. No excuses. Plenty of forewarning.

Ann Arbor Public Schools and some Wayne County schools are closed this week. Not everyone observes mid winter break. But yes, with Presidents Day, this will reduce the traffic mess.

We had just enough nice weather so that many will have forgotten how to drive in snow. It will seem as if no one has ever driven in snow before. I expect to see lots of knuckleheads on the road on Monday.

Oh well, I didn't welcome the return of mud. This snow, or really just any snow, doesn't dirty up cars like mud does.

Want mud? Big grin here. Textile Road. O yeah. Big muddy puddles and a nice 4x4. Have fun people.

Mud does not destroy a car like the salt does though. I'll take mud over salt any day

Michigan weather sucks. We need more carbon emissions to warm this place up.
