Lines calm down for day three of student pick up for University of Michigan graduation tickets
The third and final day was slower and calmer Wednesday as University of Michigan students picked up their commencement tickets.
With President Barack Obama as this year’s keynote speaker, lines stretched from the Michigan League past Hill Auditorium Monday as students eagerly awaited their allotted eight tickets (four for graduate students). Tuesday was also busy for day two of student pick-up.
Janice Jenkins, the membership marketing manager for the U-M Alumni Association, said about 2,000 people picked up tickets today.
“It was a steady flow with no line all day,” she said. “It was perfect.”
Jenkins estimated about 8,700 students came out over the past three days, a significant increase from the 5,500 students she said normally pick up tickets for graduation.
Though she did not have a number of how many tickets were distributed or how many remain, Jenkins said most students were picking up their full allotment of tickets or close to it.
On Thursday, tickets will be available to others in the university community from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Michigan Union Ticket Office. Remaining tickets will open up to the general public from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Friday.
Obama will speak at 11 a.m. Saturday at Michigan Stadium.

Cfsunlet, this story was just about students picking up commencement tickets, not the rest of the community. Another story was just posted about today's ticket distribution. To Tom Joad: No, you cannot bring your umbrella.Ponchos only. You doubt they will let Obma what??? Do you mean speak? Let's think positive. Perhaps the rain will hold off!!For the sake of the graduates I certainly hope it does.
