Lincoln High School Top Scholars

Lincoln High School held its 2011 graduation ceremonies Friday, June 3 at the EMU Convocation Center. The class included 275 graduates.

Candace Browning

Parents: Michael and Joan Shilakes

Activities and Awards: Candace received the Comcast Scholarship, American Red Cross Scholarship, Kiwanis Club Scholarship and Rotary Scholarship. She was also selected Southeastern conference All-Academic Scholar and started her own Christian program called "Revived" at the high school. Candace is currently the class president, vice president of student council, and secretary of National Honor Society. She has been a member in choir for the past four years.

Plans after graduation: Candace will attend Eastern Michigan University for secondary education, while majoring in math and minoring in music.

Leanna Chapin

Parents: James and Pamela Chapin

Activities and Awards: Leanna received the Merit Award and Leadership Award for her contributions to the band program, as well as the Bowman Laing Scholarship. She traveled to Europe over summer 2010 with Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp International Southern Winds. Leanna is a member of Link-In Leaders and an active participant in the high school musicals and band program.

Plans after graduation: Leanna plans to take a 10-month internship at Ignited Ministry Academy in Highland, Mich.

Kristin Nicole Cisco

Parents: Gail DeTroyer and Walt Cisco

Activities and Awards: Kristin has been on the honor roll ninth, 10th, 11th and 12th grades. She was a member of the cheerleading squad all four years and captain of the squad her senior year. She has been awarded the Recognition of Excellence Scholarship from Eastern Michigan University for her academic success.

Plans after graduation: Kristin plans to attend Eastern Michigan University and pursue a teaching degree.

Karen Dunstan

Parents: Allyn and Beth Dunstan

Activities and Awards: Karen has been in drama club all four years of her high school career. She has also participated in choir and the Freshman Mentoring Club. Karen received the Daughters of the American Revolution Award in 2011.

Plans after graduation: Karen will be attending Brigham Young University-Idaho and plans to major in food science.

Johannah Facer

Parents: Karen and Roger Facer

Activities and Awards: Johannah is a four year member of the symphonic and marching bands. She is the senior flute section leader. She is four-year varsity swim team member and was captain her senior year. Johannah also earned the Swim Coach's Award in ninth, 10th and 11th grade and was the Swim MVP in 12th grade. Johannah is a three year member of the National Honor Society. She was selected as a Southeastern Conference All-Academic Scholar. Johannah has made the All A Honor Roll for seven semesters. She has been a scholar athlete for four years. Johannah is also a youth group member at the Holy Spirit Lutheran Church.

Plans after graduation: Johannah plans to study at Valparaiso University and major in social work.

Jeremy Gdaniec

Parents: Lisa and Ron Gdaniec

Activities and Awards: Jeremy has been a member of the National Honor's Society during his sophomore, junior and senior years. He has received honor roll awards during his entire high school career. He has been a clarinet section leader during his senior year and rank leader his sophomore and junior years. During his years in band, he has received the Instrumentalist Magazine's Merit Award his sophomore year and Instrumentalist Magazine's Musicianship award his freshman and junior years. Jeremy has been an active member of Washtenaw County 4-H Youth program for 13 years and spends time volunteering at The Oaks Adult Day program and the Greak Lakes Rabbit Sanctuary. Jeremy is also completing his first year as a member of the Washtenaw Community Concert Band where he plays the B-flat and E-flat clarinet.

Plans after graduation: Jeremy will attend Eastern Michigan University and double major in music performance (clarinet) and biology with a minor in chemistry.

Ace Malboeuf

Parents: Jacques and Lisa Malboeuf

Activities and Awards: Ace is the captain of the swim team of which he has been a member for four years. He has also received the MVP award two years. He was a member of the tennis team for two years. He is also a member of the National Honor Society.

Plans after graduation: Ace plans to join the Air Force and become an air traffic controller.

Emily Mott

Parents: Anthony and Geri Mott

Activities and Awards: Emily has played volleyball, basketball and soccer all four years of high school. She has been a member of the National Honor Society since sophomore year and its treasurer senior year. Emily has been a freshman mentor for junior and senior year. She is on the yearbook staff and is the business editor this year. She received the Wayne State Green Scholarship. Throughout high school, she has received the High Honor Roll award freshman, sophomore and junior year.

Plans after graduation: Emily plans to attend Wayne State University. She will major in nursing and minor in Spanish.

Corrinne Murch

Parents: Michelle and Eric Murch

Activities and Awards: Corrinne is part of the swim team and marching band. She was voted one of the swim captains this year. She has won a Sportsmanship Award and four varsity letters. Corrinne is also a member of the National Honor Society.

Plans after graduation: Corrinne plans to obtain her liberal arts associate degree from Washtenaw Community College and then transfer to a four-year university.

Nia Scott

Parents: Ray and Jennifer Scott

Activities and Awards: Nia received the Alumni Association of University of Michigan's LEAD Scholarship, and the Zeta Phi Beta Gamma Delta Chapter Scholarship. She has been an active member in the National Honor Society since her sophomore year and participated in stage crew of her school's drama club. She has worked part-time through the entirety of her high school career. Nia has participated in yearbook for two years and has spent the last scholastic year as an editor.

Plans after graduation: Nia will attend the University of Michigan to study medicine.

Jacob Andrew Sell

Parents: Dean and Susan Sell

Activities and Awards: Jacob was selected as a Southeastern Conference All-Academic Scholar. He has been a member of the National Honor Society for three years and served as a Freshman Mentor for two years. Jacob is a member of MYLead, the Michigan Youth Leadership. He ran cross country for four years, ran track for two years, and played golf for two years.

Plans after graduation: Jacob plans to attend Purdue University and major in engineering.

Michael Alexandar Vargo

Parents: Dianne and Steve Vargo

Activities and Awards: Michael is the vice president of Lincoln High School's chapter of the National Honor Society. He plays trombone in the symphonic band and was a section leader for two years. Michael is a Freshman Mentor and a First Aid Support Team member with the Washtenaw County chapter of the American Red Cross. Michael is the recipient of the Green Scholarship from Wayne State University.

Plans after graduation: Michael will attend Wayne State University's pre-med program in the fall of 2011.

Samantha Winters

Parents: Catherine Winters and Todd Winters

Activities and Awards: Samantha holds an officer position in both student council, where she is secretary, and the National Honor's Society, where she is the student council representative. Samantha also participated in the teen summer volunteer program at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital.

Plans after graduation: Samantha plans to attend the University of Toledo to study nursing.




Anthony Wright

Parents: Anita and Damon Wright

Activities and Awards: Anthony has been a dedicated member of the drama club throughout his sophomore, junior and senior years. He has been a member of the National Honor Society his senior year. Anthony also has served as a Freshman Mentor his junior and senior year.

Plans after graduation: Anthony will attend Purdue University to study civil engineering.

Peter Zieske

Parents: Hong and Patrick Zieske

Activities and Awards: Peter ran on the track and field team, served as National Honor Society president, participated in Ypsilanti's FIRST Robotics team, and was a member of the politics club, election committee and student council. He achieved finalist standing in the National Chemistry Olympiad, National Merit Finalist and AP Scholar with Distinction.

Plans after graduation: Peter plans to study engineering at Cornell University.
